University Choir Scholarship

The Elizabeth City State University Choir is the premiere vocal performance ensemble and goodwill ambassador at
ECSU. As such, it seeks to recruit students whose intellect, musicianship, and character are of the highest caliber. The
University Choir Scholarship Program is designed to attract vocal and keyboard (acoustic piano/organ) musicians,
Scholarships awards will range $500 to $5000.
Eligibility:
Applicants must meet the following requirements





Earn a high school GPA of 2.75 and a SATscore (or ACT equivalent) of 900 or above;
Show evidence in good standing for participation in an organized choral music program;
Secure a recommendation from high school music teacher and/or high school administration;
Meet ECSU admission requirements;
Successfully pass a voice audition. (See audition requirements below)

Sing two (2) selections from memory (a foreign language is recommended but not required).
Sing a series of vocal exercises.
Be able to sing back passages played during the audition.
Sight-sing a small excerpt.
Note: Scholarship recipients Must apply for federal financial assistance through ECSU financial aid office. Awards
May include and Pell Grants funds, N.C. Incentive Grant funds, or ECSU Incentive Scholarship funds for which the
students qualifies.

Term of Agreement for Scholarship Recipients
As a University Choir scholarship recipient I agree to:
1. Abide by all university policies and procedures.
2. Maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.75 and major GPA of 3.00 unless otherwise specified.
3. Consecutive enrollment in the university Choir (Music 300-01) throughout your course of study as it
relates to the university catalog.
4. Be a leader in learning assigned musical part(s) and assist others as needed.
5. Be prompt in attendance to all rehearsals and other official activities (as determined by the Director
of Choral Activities).
6. Seek and secure prior permission of the Director of Choral Activities should I have difficulty in
attending a rehearsal, performance or any official activity of the university Choir.
7. At all times and in all ways, encourage others to support the University Choir as an organization.
8. Seek and secure prior permission of the Director of Choral Activities before joining or participating in
ANY group, organization or activities that:
a. Require use of your voice and/or;
b. Are deemed time consuming (i.e. Cheering Squad, Gospel Choir, and guest appearance).
I understand that my signature indicates acceptance of a University Scholarship and that failure to adhere to
ANY of the tem of this agreement will be cause for forfeiture of my scholarship and/or dismissal from the
University Choir.
