recorders at pre-fair judging. The majority of help is needed on Friday, August 21. Anyone who’s interested
is invited to call Debbie at 262-741-4959 or email deborah.moser@ces.uwex.edu. A sign-up was also
distributed via email, so you can look for it in your inbox.
Fundraising at the Fair
If your club or project is planning on selling raffle tickets or doing any kind of fundraising at the fair, it must
be approved by the Fair Board. The Fair Board reserves the right to limit the number and type of fundraising
promotions being held on the fairgrounds at all times, including fair week.
It is the stated policy of the Walworth County Fair Board that a limited number of fundraising promotions,
under proper conditions, operated by non-profit organizations, could contribute to the overall excitement and
enjoyment of the Walworth County Fair, but that too many fundraising promotions would detract from the
nature of the Fair for its patrons if not conducted under the rules as set forth by this policy document. This
policy applies to any and all fair and non-fair animal and non-animal departments, barns, buildings,
committees, projects, programs and vendors.
If you are interested in selling anything at the fair for fundraising, please contact the Fair Office for a
fundraising promotion application. The office phone number is (262) 723-3228.
4-H Camp
Walworth County 4-H Camp 2015 was held at Upham Woods in Wisconsin Dells, July 5-8. There were 82
campers, 9 chaperones, and 24 counselors attending camp this year. Thanks to the Walworth County
Junior and Senior Leaders’ Associations for helping to offset costs for this annual program to help make it
more affordable for our 4-H families!
Girls Science Explorers
On August 4, our Walworth County Girls’ Science Outreach Team will be traveling to Madison with 18
young ladies to explore biotechnology and stem cell research, visit the UW-Wisconsin Primate Center, and
engage in a wild scavenger hunt at the Henry Vilas Zoo. This Girls’ Science Explorers opportunity is
targeting girls going into grades 6-9 this fall. Additional opportunities for younger youth will be coming up
later this year.
Youth Project Spotlight at the Fair
After some discussion at last year’s fair evaluation meeting and conversations at Junior Leaders, a decision
was made to conduct a Youth Project Spotlight at this year’s fair. The spotlight will be done in the Wiswell
Center on Thursday evening and Saturday morning/afternoon and will feature half hour blocks of time
during which 4-H youth leaders will be giving project talks, answering questions about their animals, and
leading make-it-take-it activities. Some sessions will be conducted as presentations and others open house
style. A sign outside of the Wiswell will give the line-up each of the days that the spotlight is happening.
Chartering for 2016
Chartering season is just around the corner for the vast majority of our 4-H clubs and groups across the
county. This is the time when financial records for the fiscal year just ending are audited, summarized, and
documented, AND the opportunity for clubs and groups to set goals for next year, identify their officer
teams, and share a schedule of what is to come. This year, our Walworth County chartering paperwork
will be due in two parts to the UW-Extension office. The financial paperwork will be due on September
15. The rest will be due on November 2. Information is being mailed to club/group contacts in the next few
days.
If you ordered Walworth County 4-H shirts, they can be picked up at the extension office at the fair.
Mixer—UW-Extension did the mixer. Chelsea passed out a piece of paper and scissors and crayon and
you had to make something you could walk through.
Youth Building—All volunteers that assist with prefair judging, building supervision, and work in the House
of Pork will need to have a background check by the Sheriff’s Dept before they can work if they have not
undergone Youth Protection training. Make sure you cover your shifts during the assigned time slots.
Also, remember a hat and closed toed shoes when working in the House of Pork and 4-H shirts when
working either place.
House of Pork - Financial Statement handed out, went very well. Refrigerator and soda machines are in
new trailer and will hopefully be ready for the next flea market on the 9th.
Silhouettes—Chelsea - Clubs picked numbers to choose their locations. Now we can decorated them
based on the area they will be displayed. Kids will get punch cards and then get a prize in the youth
building if they have their punches. The silhouettes should be brought to the fair office during pre-fair
judging.
Don’t forget to pick up shooting sports ribbons. There were 126 shooters that participated in the shoot off.
It is the 2nd biggest project in the county.
June is Dairy Month Winners—Chelsea. 1st—Sugar Creek, 2nd--Springfield, 3rd—Lakeland
It was passed through a motion by Donna Sherman and a second by Tracy Riley to donate $200 to Junior
Leaders to shop with Sue Clark for school supplies for the drive. Lisa Konkel suggested that something go
out to clubs so that they can donate if they want.
Banquet November 1st and 15th, 2015 are the first and second choices for the banquet. It will be held at the
same location as last year, First Lutheran Church in Elkhorn.
Cloverbud/Exploring Workshop forms are in mailboxes. Families with age appropriate kids should have
gotten an email. This is a “sort of” replacement for Explorers Day Camp. Must be in 4-H to participate.
Forms are due next Friday. They are also on the website. Hoping for 10-20 participants, can take up to 40.
Nancy Lee wanted to thank everyone for helping with and supporting the Out of State Exchange program.

Walworth County 4-H Junior Leaders’ Association Meeting Minutes
July 27, 2015
The Walworth County 4-H Junior Leaders’ Association met on Monday, July 27 in the County Government Center.
The meeting followed a joint session with the Senior Leaders’ Association. During the joint session, there was a slide
show presentation about State Conference which was given by Nancy Lee, Amelia Hayden, Nathan Welsh, and
Sydney Anderson. Melissa Konkel, Big Foot Pioneers, shared a PowerPoint presentation about her Space Camp
experience, and Jessica Nehs (the 2015 Junior Camp Director) thanked the Senior Leaders for their support of camp
following a showing of the 2015 camp slide show.
The Junior Leaders’ Association meeting was called to order by V-President Charles Dowty approximately 7:25 p.m.
Pledges were said. The secretary’s report was approved by Braden Kundert and Oliver Kozak. The treasurer’s report
was approved by Braden Kundert and Sarah Haacker. There was a balance of $15,362.86 in checking and our CD had
a current value of $6174.59. Debbie Burkman opted to skip the UW-Extension report as the items it included were
elsewhere in the agenda. A short softball commission report was given indicating who the winners for 2015 were,
and a sign-up sheet was passed around for members interested in signing up for Junior Leaders offices to put their
names on. The camp counselors said that camp week went very smoothly and they had a lot of fun. All are looking
forward to next year.
In old business, Debbie Burkman reviewed the plans for the WI Pork Shoppe shifts at this year’s State Fair.
Individuals planning to drive were identified, and crew members who were present were given their admission
tickets. Debbie also asked that more individuals sign-up to assist with the Youth Project Spotlight at this year’s
Walworth County Fair. This will include short presentations in the Wiswell Center based on youth leaders’ projects of
interest. Several people were invited to help with 4-H Fun Stations that would be happening as part of the spotlight
on Saturday afternoon of fair week. A sign-up was passed around for youth leaders to help out with pre-fair judging
activities and Cloverbud judging. It was also noted that Junior Leaders would be helping with Junior Building
decorating and set-up on Monday, August 24 at 7 p.m.
In new business, a sign-up sheet was passed around at Nancy Lee’s request to find out which youth would be
interested in traveling in-state and out-of-state. The county’s annual School Supply Drive was also discussed.
Amanda Lee moved to donate $200 towards the drive. Braden Kundert made the second. The motion carried.
Amanda would like to be involved in shopping for the school supplies if possible. A budget committee was identified
to determine the 2015-2016 Jr. Leaders’ budget. Committee members will be: Braden Kundert and Devon Frederick.
The next meeting will feature a presentation by Sheriff Picknell and an ice breaker led by Maddie Eggert and Claire
Schilz. It will also be our election night.
Club and youth leadership reports were given by several members, and the meeting was adjourned by Braden
Kundert and Amanda Lee.
Following the meeting, recreation was led by Jacob Hahlbeck and Theresa VanSchyndel. Refreshments were
smores.
