2170 Page 1 of 2 INSTRUCTION Career and Technical Education The district shall provide a program of Career and Technical Education to assist students in the making of informal and meaningful educational and career choices and to prepare students for post-secondary options. Such programs shall be included as a part of the regular curriculum of the school. In order to maintain these programs, the board shall approve the content and organization of all Career and Technical Education courses of study prior to the time plans are submitted to the state superintendent of public instruction. Career and Technical Education program development shall be related to employment demands, current and future, and to the needs and interests of students. The director of Career and Technical Education shall appoint representative citizens to serve on general and specialized Career and Technical Education Advisory Committees. Such committees shall advise staff on appropriate educational objectives, instructional content and levels of achievement. The board will annually review and approve the district plan for the design and delivery of its Career and Technical Education program. The plan will ensure academic rigor, align with education reform, establish program performance targets, address the skill gaps of Washington’s economy and provide opportunities for dual credit. The superintendent shall be responsible for developing procedures which shall insure that all programs are operated in conformity with the district's plans for Career and Technical Education and with all Federal and State laws prohibiting discrimination based on race, creed, color, national origin, disability, gender, sex, sexual orientation including gender expression or identity, the presence of any sensory, mental or physical disability or the use of a trained dog guide or service animal, religion, honorably discharged veteran or military status. The superintendent shall seek and utilize all available state and federal sources of revenue as appropriate for the financial support of Career and Technical Education in the district.
