Learner Preparation:
1. The day prior to the lesson engage students in discussion about some good leaders
from U.S. history, asking questions like, “Who was your favorite president and why?”
2. Lesson is intended to expose students or get them thinking about what a good leader
really is because the following day elections will be held for class officers who must be
good leaders to help our class function smoothly and efficiently.
Introduction
Introduction (LSI Quadrant I):
NOTE: The class discussion is meant to be Socratic in nature and not true/false or this is the
only correct answer. Encourage your students to explain WHY they think the way they do!
There is NO wrong answer if they can explain the WHY!
ASK/SAY/SHOW: Follow the slides and questions embedded in it for the 8 basic types. Allow
enough time for input from your students on each one.
ASK: Do you think you are only 1 type of these?
ANSWER: No, a good leader is a combination, or changes to meet the needs of the
situation.
ASK/SAY: Follow the slides and slide questions for the three school/teacher styles. Allow
enough time for input from your students on each one.
ASK: Can you explain to me now why it’s important to know what the styles are and how they
affect you?
ANSWER: Knowledge means you are “Forewarned and fore armed”.
ASK: How do we use this knowledge to work better with each other. (Leave time to discuss)
ASK: Why are we taking the online assessment?
ANSWER: Because tomorrow we will elect class officers.
ASK: Is the test 100% accurate?
ANSWER: No, but it will at least get us started.
SAY: Go over the 6 types from the assessment and what they are. Discuss them as needed.
SAY: Now complete what your assessment results are on the handout. (Give 3-5 minutes to
complete that portion).
SAY/SHOW: The class officers PowerPoint presentation and explain the duties.
SAY: Now complete the platform statement or officer application for at least 1 of the positions
on the handout.
SAY: Make sure this gets turned in for grading at the end of class.
