California Avocado Society 1963 Yearbook 47: 17 In Appreciation ELWOOD E. TRASK More than twenty years of service to the California Avocado Society and even more to the industry. ' This describes Director Emeritus Elwood E. Trask, the first man thus honored by the Society. Elwood was first elected to the board in 1932, serving one term and then retiring for a time. Elected again in 1945 he served continuously until his resignation in January this year. He served as Vice President in 1948 and 1949 and as President in 1950 and in 1951. In 1947, he was awarded the Medal of Honor at the Annual Meeting held in Santa Ana for his meritorious service to the Avocado industry. He has been a long term member of both the Avocado Variety Committee and the Subtropical Fruits Variety Committee, of which he is now the chairman. Elwood has been on the editorial committee of the Society for many years spending much time in the preparation of these useful Yearbooks. One of his most important contributions to horticulture was his assistance in the formation of the California Macadamia Society along the same general plan of the Avocado Society. As a director of that organization and editor of its Yearbook, he has provided significant service to that infant but growing California industry. It was with great regret that Elwood Trask's resignation was accepted by the Board of Directors, but we expect many more years of his intelligent advice in his new position as Director Emeritus.
