Lesson Plan Course Title: Digital and Interactive Media Session Title: Career Exploration Lesson Duration: 1.5 Hours Performance Objective: Upon completion of this assignment, the student will be able to align personal interest with required education and training to achieve personal career goals Specific Objectives: Students will research relevant DIM occupations and required education/training for employment Students will research continued/higher education institutes that offer aligned course study Students will identify requirements for admission into appropriate institutes Preparation TEKS Correlations: 130.278 (2A) identify job opportunities and accompanying job duties and tasks; (2B) research careers of personal interest along with the education, job skills, and experience required to achieve personal career goals; (3B) use internet resources for research purposes. Instructor/Trainer References: Content Developer Knowledge Instructional Aids: Career Exploration Teacher’s Instructions Career Exploration Assignment sheet and Rubric Materials Needed: Each student will need a copy of the Career Exploration Assignment sheet and Rubric Access to internet connection Equipment Needed: Teacher will need a computer connected to a smart board or projector to allow students to view internet search result examples found by teacher. Each student will need a computer with internet access, word processing software, and printer access to print their results for submission. All rights reserved. 1 Introduction MI Introduction (LSI Quadrant I): The instructor should begin by asking students to state examples of careers impacted by skills learned in the DIM classroom. A classroom discussion regarding what appropriate skills are required for these careers and where they can be obtained should follow. As a class, students can brainstorm ideas on relevant training and education needed to be successful in a DIM related career. 1. Careers impacted by DIM skills discussion: A. 2. Examples 1. Audio/Video editing and production Examples of educational institutions Application MI Guided Practice (LSI Quadrant III): During the discussion students will brainstorm ideas related to the subject. Absent students may require additional one-on-one direction and prompting, or they can collaborate with students around them that were present for clarification and help. MI Independent Practice (LSI Quadrant III): Following the presentation, students will be provided with the Career Exploration activity to complete on their own. Summary MI Review (LSI Quadrants I and IV): Students will take all of the introduced information from the lesson and use it to complete the project. A quick Q&A with regards to the parameters of the assignment may be used to check for understanding. Evaluation MI Informal Assessment (LSI Quadrant III): Periodic checks for understanding during the presentation are used as well as allowing the students to take time to internalize the information and apply it to their own interests with regards to working in the DIM industry. MI Formal Assessment (LSI Quadrant III, IV): The project will be completed individually to check for understanding and graded against the provided rubric. Class evaluation and discussion can also be used to allow students to compare and contrast their findings against those of their peers. Extension MI Extension/Enrichment (LSI Quadrant IV): Upon completion of their research, students will have a better understanding of the reach that DIM has into many areas of several industries. They will also have a detailed understanding of the skills/education that will be required should they choose to follow an career in this field, and what will be necessary in order to obtain them. In the event that students finish early teachers may allow them to assist other students, or they may begin creating lists of colleges they would like to attend for other career choices. As the assignment has a small time frame for completion, allowing for collaborative interaction should fill any remaining completion time gaps.
