Lesson Plan Course Title: Digital and Interactive Media Session Title: Emerging Technologies Lesson Duration: 3 Hours Performance Objective: Upon completion of this assignment the student will be able to identify changes to technology and it’s affect on the DIM field. Also, students will have a clearer idea of how to implement new technologies for more creative and relevant DIM projects. Specific Objectives: Students will research recent (last 3 years) technologies that may have an impact on the field of DIM Students will compare and contrast these technologies with older versions (if applicable) Students will discuss pros and cons of new technologies and the overall impact they might have on the industry (i.e. creation/loss of jobs; broader reach of message; simplifying creation process) Preparation TEKS Correlations: 130.278 (3B) use Internet resources for research purposes; and (3C) research technologies that have surfaced within the last three years in the area of interactive media Instructor/Trainer References: Content Developer Knowledge Instructional Aids: Emerging Technology Teacher’s Instructions Emerging Technology Assignment sheet and Rubric Materials Needed: Each student will need a copy of the Career Exploration Assignment sheet and Rubric Access to internet connection Equipment Needed: Teacher will need a computer connected to a smart board or projector to allow students to view internet search result examples found by teacher. Each student will need a computer with internet access, word processing software, presentation software and printer access (color if possible) to print their results for submission. As a class students can brainstorm ideas on current technology and its origins, as well as discuss how the growth and evolution of technology has and will impact the industry. Outline MI Outline (LSI Quadrant II): Instructor Notes: 1. Technology that has an impact on DIM: For this lesson, the teacher will refer to “teacher’s guide” for direction on how to introduce and complete the lesson with your students. A. Examples 1. Computers 2. Software 3. Digital Still/Video cameras 4. Scanners 2. How has it impacted the industry? A. DIY mentality 1. I can do it myself 2. I don’t need to pay to have it done. B. Financial impact 1. Is it cheaper now? C. Creative impact 1. What can we do now that we couldn’t do before? D. What will come next? 1. How will it impact the industry? Absent students may require additional one-on-one direction and prompting, or they can collaborate with students around them that were present for clarification and help. MI Independent Practice (LSI Quadrant III): Following the presentation, students will be provided with the Emerging Technologies activity to complete on their own. They will use a combination of existing knowledge and personal research to complete the project and then compare and contrast their findings against their classmates’. Summary MI Review (LSI Quadrants I and IV): Students will take all of the introduced information from the lesson and use it to complete the project. A quick Q&A with regards to the parameters of the assignment may be used to check for understanding. Evaluation MI Informal Assessment (LSI Quadrant III): Periodic checks for understanding during the presentation are used as well as progress checks to quantify the amount of research done and information gathered. MI Formal Assessment (LSI Quadrant III, IV): The project will be completed individually to check for understanding and graded against the provided rubric. Class evaluation and discussion can also be used to allow students to compare and contrast their findings against those of their peers. They should ask questions like: What does this do for the industry as a whole? How can I benefit from this? How is it different from what came before? What are the possibilities for the future? As the assignment has a small timeframe for completion, allowing for collaborative interaction or the creation of a formal presentation should fill any remaining completion time gaps.
