• Presenting an idea is an
integral part of architecture
and design.
• You may have the best idea
ever, but if you cannot
communicate it properly,
your idea may never become
real.
• A presentation is a complete
way of conveying an idea to
an audience.

• Presentations can be done in
a variety of ways with many
different styles.
• Several basic ways to present
an idea include
•
•
•
Speeches
Slideshows
Videos
• These methods have different
outcomes and can appeal to
different situations or
audiences.

• Who is the target audience
for the presentation?
• This is a very important
question. This influences
what information to include.
• Are you giving information to
a team of professionals? Or
will this information be
completely new to the
audience?

• When you know your
audience, you can target the
presentation to their needs.
• If you were presenting to a
group of first graders, you
might make the presentation
more fun and simple.
• If you were presenting to
adults, you might make it
more informative and
serious.

• When you present, you must
know your content material.
• It is important to properly
research your subject before
presenting.
• You may have to answer
questions about the subject
matter.

• Where are you presenting?
• What if you are using sound,
but it is in a large area? You
may need louder speakers or
none at all. What if the sound
is an important part of the
presentation?
• What if you used handouts,
but did not have enough for
the audience?

• Make sure you can prepare
everything related to the
presentation beforehand.
• Will you need materials to
show or demonstrate?
• The more you present, the
easier it will be to predict all
the things you will need for a
successful presentation.

• The way you “hold” yourself
is very important.
• If you look down a lot,
stumble on words, or are
hard to hear or understand,
this can greatly affect your
outcome.
• You may be an expert on the
subject, but if you cannot
deliver the material, it is not
very helpful.

• There are many little, but
important, things to consider
when developing a
presentation. But good
planning and preparation can
build your confidence for the
actual presentation.
• If you are sure of yourself,
then it will reflect in your
presentation.
• Your confidence will impact
the audience’s belief in what
you are sharing.

• All presentations do not have
to be formal.
• As a designer, you will have to
present ideas at any moment.
• Being able to clearly
communicate is not just for
formal speeches, but in your
day-to-day routine as well.
