February has been another busy month at Giant’s Head.
The Grade 4 classes are participating in cross-country Skiing at Nickel Plate.
Everyone at Giant’s Head School offers a huge thanks to their PAC for funding this
valuable program.
Basketball season was a big success. The teams had great games with Trout Creek,
Wiltse and Uplands Schools. It was great to see the students improve their skills
over the course of the season.
Giant’s Head Elementary joined 1200 Summerland residents in a “Summerland Is
Bully Free” flash mob.
The BC Lions visited the school and gave an interactive presentation on energy
conservation. It was a big hit with both teachers and students.
It’s official… we are half way through the school year! The primary classes (with the
assistance of the Grade 5’s) celebrated 100’s Day with a numeracy themed day.
Finally, on February 20th, Staff and Students were involved in a school-wide Student
Led Conference. It was amazing to see kids guide their parents through their
learning. It is amazing to see how far kids have come over the course of the year –
that’s a Success!

Through a Different Lens Project
Columbia
l
Elementary
The Through a Different Lens (TADL) project is in its' second year in SD67. Columbia
school has been involved since the beginning and participation in this exciting project has
grown to 5 teachers at Columbia school. TADL is about meeting the needs of all learners
to help the at-risk students re-engage with school and be more successful. It is about
making learning more active and fun for all involved. Columbia Elementary has seen the
huge benefits for their students academically, socially, and emotionally. It is also a lot
more fun for the teachers involved. A significant professional benefit is the opportunity to
meet, plan, and share with other educators. This collaborative effort is a wonderful
experience and leads to promising things for the students. TADL encourages innovative,
creative ways of helping the students learn and enjoy school at the same time. It is
exciting to see the success of the TADL project and look forward to continued progress
and success for Columbia students!
