Hometown Bank With A Big Heart
i
n comparison to Elizabeth City State University’s 121 years of history, townebank is
a youngster at age 13! Despite the age difference, ECSU and towne share common
goals–excellence and community service.
e townebank story is the tale of a community bank that was founded in a garage,
and achieved profitability in just eleven short months. it’s the story of a hometown bank
that opened three offices in three cities on the same day in april 1999. and it’s the story
of a bank that has focused from day one on giving back to the community.
“When we formed townebank, we knew we wanted to get back to the basics,”
said G. robert aston, Jr., Chairman and CEO. “to us, it’s all about friendships and
relationships. Every loan we make benefits our community. Every dollar we contribute
serves the families and children in our hometown. together, we are building a great
community asset. it is a terrific feeling to be a part of a team that is so giving, in both
volunteer time and dollars, to make hampton roads and northeastern north Carolina
a better place to live. We are proud to be such a special part of our hometown.”
townebank has quickly become known as the hometown bank with the generous
spirit. in 2001, the townebank Foundation was formed with the goal of building a
community endowment fund to help enhance life in the region for both today and future
generations. e townebank board of directors made a commitment to contribute a
percentage of the bank’s net profits each year to the Foundation. to date, more than
$20 million has been given to local charities and organizations seeking to improve the
quality of life in the areas townebank serves.
today, townebank enjoys a reputation as one of virginia’s top performing community
banks with assets of $4 billion. twenty-six branch offices provide outstanding member
service from virginia beach to Williamsburg to northeastern north Carolina. in
December of 2010, the bank of Currituck became part of the towne family. now known
as townebank of Currituck, three offices are located on the Outer banks as well as on the
mainland in Camden, Moyock, and Grandy.
townebank offers an array of financial services designed to meet the needs of
consumers, businesses, and organizations throughout the community. Members enjoy
talking with friendly and knowledgeable professionals in many financial arenas, including
insurance, investments, mortgage, title insurance, real estate services, employee benefits
and more. towne’s hometown bankers are always ready to help make dreams come true.
you can visit townebank at www.townebank.com.
While townebank has grown, the mission has remained constant. “looking back to
those early days in my garage, our vision was to build a community asset that enhanced
the quality of life in our community,” recalls bob aston. “at statement is not about how
much money we make; it’s about how we choose to use it.” townebank is delighted to
support Elizabeth City State University in fulfilling its mission.
