Seoul stands at the crossroads of glorious past and promising future. The capital of Korea, Seoul is located halfway down the Korean peninsula near the west coast, the site of ancient settlement. It is ideally located between mountains and along the Han River, so it is not hard to imagine why it was chosen as the nation's capital in 1394 at the beginning of Chosun Dynasty (1392-1910). Seoul has a population of 11 million. Numerous skyscrapers now tower above the graceful architecture of its ancient palaces. 1.4 Korea & Korean Tourism Please consult the following Websites for information on Korea and possible tours: http://www.knto.or.kr http://www.kois.go.kr Please contact the following for additional information: Korea National Tourism Corporation Tourist Information Center Tel: +82 2 757 0086 Fax: +82 2 757 5997 ITU-T\BUREAU\CIRC\090E.DOC 31/05/16 -7- 2 Other information 2.1 Climate In May, the daytime temperatures in the Seoul metropolitan area generally range from + 5° C and + 15° C (40° F and 60° F). 2.2 Electricity In Korea major hotels use 220 volts.
