Further to TSB Circular 36 of 2 April 2001 on the establishment of new ITU-T Study
Group 17 entitled “Data networks and telecommunication software”, I hereby inform you that
ITU-T Study Groups 7 and 10 had their second and final meetings in Bangalore (28 August to
7 September 2001) and Geneva (6 to 14 September 2001), respectively.

The merger of Study Groups 7 and 10 into Study Group 17 came into effect on
17 September 2001. The organization of Study Group 17, as agreed by Study Groups 7 and 10 at
their plenary meetings of 7 September and 14 September 2001, respectively, is given in Annex 1.

A transitional arrangement is made for documents pertaining to Study Groups 7 and 10 to
remain accessible via the pages designed for these Study Groups on the ITU-T Website. These
documents are also accessible via the ITU-T Website by using appropriate links on the Study Group
17 page.
