• Anticipate focus areas for next Workplan 2013-2016
How do we achieve our meeting goals?
• In plenary sessions we will learn of our
Network progress in addressing the 14
priorities of the GPA and we will hear reports
from all working groups
– Thanks from all of us to the GPA Managers and
Collaborating Centre Initiative Leaders, who are
the volunteer leaders to coordinate our
activities!
How do we achieve our meeting goals
(cont’d)?
• The key to success is participation in the
Working Group for each Priority.
– Please participate in one Working Group in
each of the three sessions (Tuesday morning,
Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning).
– Choose your 3 working groups based on your
key Collaborating Centre projects or on your CC
interest in becoming involved.

• The Summary of Projects; Projects by Country; and
Compendium of Projects have been provided to you.
Use the “Country Grid” to locate your projects in the Compendium
Guidebook for Members of the Global Network of
WHO Collaborating Centres in Occupational Health
• The Guidebook is intended to educate newcomers
about the history and functions of our Network. It is
a draft, and we seek your comments.
• It provides background information about the 20092012 Workplan and the activities of the Network
following our 2006 meeting in Stresa, Italy.
• The structures of the Network were created over
many years. The new feature is the formulation of
Terms of Reference for the leadership components.
Structure of the WHO Global Network
of Collaborating Centres in Occupational Health
Please Note in the Terms of Reference of Advisory
Committee
• Historically, the Advisory Committee has been charged to
provide advice to the Network on an ongoing basis about
planning, monitoring and evaluating of the work of the
Collaborating Centres and their contribution to achieving the
objectives of the World Health Assembly Resolutions
‘Occupational Health for All’ (1996) and the ‘Global Plan of
Action on Workers' Health’ (2007).
• The Chair of the Advisory Board (currently the NIOSH
Director) brings major decisions to the Network Meeting of
Directors for consensus agreement.
Please note in the Terms of Reference of Advisory
Committee
• In the 2006 Network meeting in Stresa, Italy,
the Advisory Board was broadened by your
decision to bring geographic representation
into the group.
• The new decision is to formalize terms of
service of Collaborating Centres on the
Advisory Board.
Please Note in the Terms of Reference of Advisory
Committee
• Recognizing the historic decisions and intent of
the Network of CCs in Occupational Health, the
Advisory Board recommends that the Finnish
Institute of Occupational Health (FIOH) and
NIOSH be permanent members.
Please note in the Terms of Reference of Advisory
Committee
• To provide for continuity and for new input, the
Advisory Board recommends that there be rotation of
one Collaborating Centre prior to each Network
Meeting. This year, the rotation is
– The addition of the Italian National Institute of
Occupational Safety & Prevention (ISPESL), and
– The rotating off of the International Centre for
Pesticides and Health Risk Prevention (ICPS).
Many thanks to the ICPS and their support!!!
