All Information Technology acquisitions not compliant with the existing
Forest Service Enterprise Architecture require technical approval.
Technical approvals will be performed by the Chief Information Office
(CIO) staff and submitted electronically using the Technical Approval
Request Database.

6610.3 – POLICY
All official USDA Forest Service correspondence will be generated on office automation
provided by the Forest Service corporate computer system. Cooperators and other non-Forest
Service persons will not use the Forest Service corporate computer system without specific and
written approval from the Station Director.
6610.4 – RESPONSIBILITY
Line and Staff Officers: Line and staff officers are responsible for the early planning and
approval of anticipated ADP-related services, equipment, or systems. Responsibilities also
include the approved items in the annual individual procurement plans. Line and staff officers
are also responsible for the proper use of Forest Service corporate computer replacement
equipment.
6615 - TECHNICAL APPROVALS
6615.04 – RESPONSIBILITY
This policy delegates authority at the Station level for maintenance, software on the Forest
Service contract and upgrades of up to $2,500 to Project Leaders and Program Managers.
Technical approvals will be performed by the Chief Information Office (CIO) staff and
submitted electronically using the Technical Approval Request Database.
