( We are visiting scholars from China to Kent, we learn a lot from cultural and academic exchange. ) This fall we have six visiting Chinese professors in residence. From our partner institution, Sichuan International Studies University, Luo Peiya, Wang Shizhen, He Hinhong, and Zhu Danya. Shen Shu is from Second Military Medical University of Shanghai. Continuing their residency from last spring, Yan Xu is from Changzhou Institute of Light Industry Technology Yan Xu, and Jing Gao is from Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade. These visiting scholars will share their research in two Gerald H. Read Distinguished Lectures: October 23 and November 5. Both lectures will be held in Room 200, at 12:00. Light autumn lunch will be served at each lecture. This association plus the Turkish saying, “A friend of a friend is a friend.” seems to have extended the relationships with others throughout the Turkish higher education system. Our KSU Turkish connection creates opportunities for EHHS faculty and graduate students to present at varous Turkish conferences. Visiting scholars in residence for various periods this summer and fall have included Shawn Fitzgerald will be joined by two students, Ipek Ozer and Ebed Sulbaran at the 4th International Conference on Education and Educational Psychology where they will share the ESL proficiency tests project for Kent State Koleji. Arupa Foundation Schools Dr. Arzu Yuksel, Dumplupinar University, Dr. Mustafa Basaran, Dr. Ali Fuat Arici and Dr. Mustafa Ulu, Sakarya University; Dr. Osman Ozkul and Duzce University Dr. Suleyman Goksoy. EHHS faculty working with these visiting scholars include Dr. Tim Razinski, Dr. Ken Cushner, and Dr. Cathy Hackney. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Tim Razinski will be traveling throughout Turkey lecturing on early reading strategies at several universities and with the Ministry of Education. Dr. Marty Jencius and Will Jencius attended the 2013 International Association for Counselling (IAC) Conference and 12th National Congress of Psychological Counselling and Guidance. Dr. Linda Robertson whas been invited to the Congress of Passing Amoung Levels and New Models in Education from the Establishment of the Republic to the Present Day (16-18 Januaary 2014) Our Kent State Koleji connection will provide an opportunity for more EHHS faculty to travel to Turkey this academic year. Target areas for professional development include middle years math and science, special education, and educational technology.
