Proposed Program of Study (Listed on page 2 and additional pages as needed)
Please list the classes you intend to complete as partial requirements toward completion of the Ph.D. in
Applied Geology, indicating which courses are relevant to the major and minor areas of research. Please note
that a minimum of 90 graduate hours beyond the B.S. degree or 60 graduate hours beyond the M.S. degree
are required. A minimum of 30 hours of Dissertation I are required. Students must document that they have
fulfilled the additional breadth requirement.
To maintain full-time status, graduate students must enroll in 8 or more hours of graduate course work per
term until the completion of their dissertation proposal defense. After passing the dissertation proposal
defense, students must continuously enroll in Dissertation I or II hours, including Summer Session III each
year, until graduation. Students enrolling in the Ph.D. program are expected to have completed
undergraduate or graduate course work in mineralogy (Earth Materials I), petrology (Earth Materials II),
structural geology, sed/strat, and a five-week or longer, geological field camp prior to the completion of their
degree. These courses may be completed by applicants prior to entering the graduate program or while
enrolled at KSU. If completed at the graduate level, these courses may count toward the graduate program of
study. Additional program requirements are listed on the departmental website and in the university graduate
catalog.
