Annotation in Computer Assisted Reading and Analysis of Texts Jean-Guy Meunier Université du Québec á Montréal, Canada Email: meunier.jean-guy@uqam.ca As past and present technical, scientific, literary books and documents are digitalized, more sophisticated tools are required for exploring this textual ocean. Computer assisted reading and analysis of text (CARAT), as practiced in social sciences and the humanities, is more than navigating, recalling, summarizing, and filtering, tools. Even text mining strategies have not been satisfying for CARAT. For indeed, the aim of serious CARAT is more complex. Its ultimate objective is assisting the interpretation of texts. For this sophisticated links among tools have to be explored for assisting thematic, conceptual and inferential analysis of content. c 2007, Association for the Advancement of Artificial Copyright Intelligence (www.aaai.org).
