Do you know someone who has made a difference and deserves recognition? Please tick the relevant category below and fill in the form overleaf. The categories are: o o YOUNG o LOCAL HERO Every district has an unsung volunteer who keeps the word ‘community’ alive. Many have spent years making sure neighbours are well cared for, houses are protected through Neighbourhood Watch groups or campaigning to see that children can cross busy roads safely. These are the people who foster children or keep voluntary groups going. Please nominate your Local Hero. COMMUNITY HERO We are looking for a young person who tries to make the world a better place for others. If you know someone who helps the Community they live in please tell us about them. The Young Community Hero category is open to all those aged between 10 and 17 in November 2006. o COMMUNITY PROJECT OF THE YEAR We are looking for a project that has been a proven benefit to the community it serves. The scheme should be an original and judges will also look at how long it has been running; the obstacles it has had to overcome; why it was dreamed up; how it involves the local community; how it is funded; and what next. So if you know of a project that has helped to change your community for the better, let us know. o CARING HERO Candidates in this category will usually have been nominated by those they help. But names can also be put forward by local organisation, charity, friend or relative who knows the extent of their commitment to caring for others. This category is open to young and adult carers as well as health or welfare workers who carry on offering support after their normal shift is over. o TEACHER OF THE YEAR We are looking for a teacher that goes beyond the call of duty, that extra mile to become exceptional at their job. Maybe you know a teacher who has made a positive impression. Someone who has such dedication and enthusiasm for passing on knowledge that they have fired up your imagination or encouraged you to reach your true potential. Maybe you know someone who teaches in a specific area, for example teaching disabled people to ride or do sport, or a teacher who has used their own time to help someone struggling with a subject, or a very inspirational teacher who encourages youngsters or adults to achieve the best they can. o PUBLIC SECTOR HERO We are looking for people who not only work for the police, fire, ambulance, health service or local authority, but who also transfer the skills of their day job into after-hours voluntary effort on behalf of the community. ENVIRONMENTAL HERO The world is changing and not always for the better. At a time actions speak louder than words, this hero will be someone that has demonstrated the commitment to make changes happen. Not only will they be involved in saving the planet, they may be informing and educating people around them to really make a difference. Do you know someone who has championed recycling, helped reduce pollution, is doing something about climate change or is protecting our world for our children. If so this award is for just that person.
