Operating components are designed for long-term dependability and to withstand the rugged recloser duty. Inspection is simplified by easy access to the mechanism and interrupter cabinets; no special tools or procedures are required. The recloser operating mechanism employs a 240-Vac motor to charge the closing spring that in turn provides the force to close the vacuum interrupters and charge the opening springs. When tripping and closing operations are required, springs are released by solenoids actuated with 24-volt signals from the recloser's electronic control. The interrupters are mounted independently of the recloser bushings. This permits quicker bushing replacement and requires no interrupter adjustment. Multiple Operations Stored Should the motor supply be lost while the closing spring is charged, an open-closeopen operating sequence remains stored in the mechanism. If the recloser trips under these conditions, the stored closing operation allows an immediate reclosing if required; after such closing, one further trip operation then remains stored. Once closed, the recloser always contains energy for at least one trip operation. Manual Operations Totally manual operations are easily achieved while motor power is lost. A hand crank can be used to charge the closing spring; its release charges the tripping springs. Closing and subsequent tripping operations can then be manually actuated at the operator cabinet or from the recloser control. Mechanical Life Open-Close, no load operations ......................... 2500 Reclosing Interval The first reclosing interval may be configured to operate in less than 24 cycles, followed by a reclosing interval of 2 seconds. Quality Vacuum Interrupters High-quality Kyle vacuum interrupters provide fast, lowenergy arc interruption and exhibit long contact and interrupter life. Because of their short contact stroke, operation of the vacuum interrupters causes less stress and wear on the recloser mechanism, which allows a longer operating life requiring less service. Kyle vacuum interrupters employ a metal and ceramic housing for maximum strength and long-term vacuum integrity. The high-alumina ceramic is more than five times as strong as glass, permits a higher processing temperature to develop maximum purity of envelope interior, and is impervious to helium penetration to sustain the vacuum level. Metal components are of highpurity alloys to minimize contamination. Because the smallest amount of internal contamination can significantly shorten the interrupter's life, a cleanroom facility is used for interrupter production. Special care is taken to avoid even minute contamination whether it be from dust particles, machining oils, or human body salts. Superior Control The Form 6: a powerful, yet flexible recloser control with all your operating needs met in the front panel design. One-touch function keys and analysis keys, intuitive graphical interfaces, and LED indicators with day or night visibility all simplify training and operation. ProViewTM software, which operates in a Microsoft Windows environment, integrates protection, metering, and automation functions for quick configuration of the Form 6 recloser control. Innovative control features that provide new tools for protection, metering, and analysis include Oscillography, Recloser Replay, directional functionality, TCC Editor II, and the graphical Idea WorkbenchTM. ® ® Form 6 Control with front panel programmability and interrogation.
