Hospitality Management Kent State University offers the only four-year hospitality management program in Ohio accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration. The program has been continuously accredited since 2002. The Hospitality Management Program prepares leaders for careers in major hospitality industry segments through academic and research programs valuing quality of life, business success, collaborative partnerships, creative approaches and ethical principles. Graduates look forward to well-compensated positions in the industry as managers in restaurants, hotels, casino hotels, conference centers, country clubs and other hospitality venues. The Hospitality Management Program curriculum combines specialty classes in hospitality management and business management coursework. Students gain experience in the field through food labs, class assignments associated with university dining and other area hospitality businesses and a practicum during the junior or senior year. Nationally and internationally, the affiliated student chapters of Professional Convention Management Association of America (PCMA), Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) and Eta Sigma Delta International Hospitality Management Society provide opportunities for leadership development and networking. Additional opportunities for students to be involved beyond the classroom include a mentoring program with Northeast Ohio hospitality leaders and the Kent State University Campus Kitchens project. Students and faculty enjoy the support of Kent State University Dining Services and members of the Hospitality Management Advisory Board for many of the program initiatives. Annually the Schwebel Guest Lecture Series features leading hospitality professionals. Individualized programs are developed to reflect a consideration for the nature of the setting in which educators will work (e.g., youth center, social agency, museum, park, business), the particular skills and competencies required in such an educational career (e.g., program planning, technology utilization, interpersonal and multicultural facilitation) and the nature of the particular educational function which characterizes the options (program design, instruction, service delivery).
