University Health Services provides outpatient primary care including examination and treatment for illness and minor injuries, women’s health care, psychological counseling, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, physical therapy and health promotion. University Health Services is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, which means our health center has undergone a thorough review of our policies and practices and has met nationally recognized standards for high-quality healthcare. MEDICAL SERVICES Medical Care University Health Services is a full-service primary care medical facility offering appointments for treatment of chronic medical conditions and acute illness or injury. Appointments are recommended to reduce waiting times, and we can usually accommodate patients the same day for an illness or injury. Our physicians and nurse practitioners are board certified and licensed in the state of Ohio. Radiology Radiology provides routine diagnostic X-rays as prescribed by a licensed clinician. Testing is done by a licensed radiological technologist. Laboratory Services University Health Services Laboratory offers a wide variety of tests to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of our patients. The laboratory is conveniently located on the first floor of the DeWeese Health Center. Specialty and pathology testing are completed through an outside reference laboratory. Pharmacy Services The pharmacy fills prescriptions and offers many common over-the-counter items. Registered pharmacists are on duty during clinical hours. Physical Therapy Physical therapy provides rehabilitation after musculoskeletal injuries or after surgery. Patients can receive short-term or long-term therapy to help them return to an optimal level of function and prevent future problems. Psychological Services A wide variety of counseling and psychological services are available for students. Our professional licensed psychologists are experienced and committed to the special concerns of college students. Students contact Psychological Services for a variety of reasons including: academic issues, relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, sexuality and substancerelated issues. In addition, psychological testing for attention deficit (ADHD) and related disorders is available. Women’s Health The Women’s Clinic is staffed by nurse practitioners and physicians who are experienced in women’s healthcare and sensitive to the needs of patients of all sexual orientations and cultural beliefs. We also have specialized exam tables to accommodate disabled women. Services offered through the Women’s Clinic include pap tests, HPV testing, sexually transmitted infection testing, confidential HIV testing, breast examination, evaluation and management of menstrual irregularities and vaginal issues, initiation and management of birth control and emergency contraception. STUDENT IMMUNIZATION POLICY Kent State University policy requires that all students attending classes at the Kent Campus must comply with the following immunization requirements: •All students must show proof of immunity to measles, mumps and rubella (MMR). Students must submit either: 1. Documentation of two MMR vaccines given after one year of age and separated by at least one month, or 2.Documentation of titers (blood tests) showing immunity to measles, mumps and rubella. Students born prior to 1957 are exempt from this requirement. •International students from countries in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Central or South America where tuberculosis is prevalent are required to have a www.kent.edu/uhs UNIVERSITY HEALTH SERVICES tuberculosis screening test no more than 12 months prior to starting classes. •Both the required immunization and the tuberculosis screening may be obtained at University Health Services, local health departments or private physicians’ offices. •Meningitis vaccine is not required by the university, but is highly recommended by the CDC for all college freshmen living in residence halls. Insurance Billing University Health Services participates in many insurance plan networks as a primary care provider. Claims are submitted to all insurance plans regardless of our network participation. UHS accepts cash, check, VISA/ Mastercard/DISCOVER, and Flashcard for payment of co-pays, co-insurance, deductibles or non-covered services. All unpaid charges will be remitted to the student’s bursar account.
