Finding a Job It’s a full 2me job Know What You Are Looking For •  What type of job are you looking for? •  Are you willing to trade job experience for salary? •  Are you willing to move? Are you up for Alaska, Middle East, Asia, South America or Africa? !  Is your family ready to follow? ! 
•  Are you interested in the armed forces? •  Is the next step training in a specialty? Know What You Are Looking For •  Remember you will start at the boJom of the “totem pole” •  Be prepare for a job you were not looking for The Search •  Think of a job search as a job that start now •  You must look for the job, it will not find you •  If you are not currently employed, plan to spend 30 to 40 hours per week finding a job !

Refine the plan by always looking for new approaches •  Don’t give-­‐up •  Don’t wait for the perfect job !

Ask them easy ques2ons •  What avia2on field would they recommend? •  Where would you recommend I look for opportuni2es? •  Would you know someone I could contact? •  Don’t directly ask for a job •  Internet has limited success ! 
Limit your 2me – 1 hour for full day of searching Job Sources •  Local shop and industries e.g. Lockheed satellite division !  e.g. Aerospace industries !  Don’t limit your search ! 
•  Hiring manages Not the recep2onist !  Don’t just drop off your resume with the recep2onist !

Follow that plan •  Plan your day out Make a list where to look and who to contact !  You are working 8 to 5, so you have a lot 2me to make contacts !  Limit your 2me on the Internet ! 
•  Be organized •  Keep track of your ac2vi2es •  Keep a file on each contract and all your communica2ons Work Plan •  Once you contact someone, find a way get back in contact ! 
e.g. Can I contact you in week? •  If no ideas now, can you check back in a month ! 
If you have given someone a resume, ask if you can call back in a week •  You will get “No’s”, brush it off and keep going Interview •  Be prepared for it Inves2gate the company !  Bring a copy of your resume !  Arrive early !
