Biographical Sketch: Said M. Shiyab received his Ph.D. from Heriot-Watt University (U.K.) in 1991. His research interests
include translation theory, language and culture, cross and inter-cultural communication, systemic linguistics, among others. He
is the author of Translation and the Structure of Argumentation (2013), A Textbook of Translation: Theoretical and Practical
Implications (2006), and co-author of Globalization and Aspects of Translation (2010) with Marilyn Gaddis-Rose, Juliane House
and John Duval. He is currently working with a colleague from the University of Geneve on Handbook for Writing Business
Letters and Promotional Material, which is expected to be out by the end of 2014. Prof. Shiyab is a member of Babel’s Editorial
Board, a member of the International Journal of Asian Philosophical Association (IJAPA), a member of the Editorial Board of
the International Journal of Translation Studies in the New Millennium, and a member and a fellow in the Chartered Institute of
Linguists, London, United Kingdom. He is a Language Consultant and Translation Test Assessor for Xerox Global Knowledge
and Language Services (Translation), United Kingdom, and a member of the Higher Council for Translation, Arab League.
