New Cable Ladder Reduces Weight and Increases Load Capacity in Offshore
Applications
HIGHLAND, Ill. … Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton today announced that its B-Line
division has introduced its new High Performance Ladder (HPL) Series. Designed to literally
save tons in overall weight for offshore projects, this patent-pending cable ladder offers a
unique combination of low weight and high strength. This high strength to weight ratio allows
for increased load capacities and keeps offshore weight budgets in balance.
“Weight overruns are becoming a growing issue that can often result in design, engineering
and installation challenges in offshore applications,” said Tim Fox, product manager, Eaton’s
B-Line division. “With our new, patent-pending HPL Series cable ladder, we’re helping to
manage overall cable ladder system weight while improving performance. This allows our
customers to reduce the tonnage of cable ladder systems and support steel while increasing
the cable and environmental loads needed in these demanding environments.”
To achieve this weight reduction and improve performance, the HPL Series utilizes a unique
I-Beam rail design. The design maximizes the overall efficiency of the stainless steel product,
allowing it to carry up to 2.3 times more load than a traditional C-channel side rail. This
efficiency translates to a cable and environmental load increase while reducing weight by an
average 5 percent. Additionally, the I-Beam side rail is slotted to ease in the installation of
splice plates and accessories, reducing the total installed cost.
The new HPL Series is available in a low carbon, three sixteen stainless steel material in

both 125 millimeter (mm) and 150mm side rail heights. It has been tested in accordance to
International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 61537 Test Type II and is both Det Norske
Veritas (DNV) certified and American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) type approved.
For added cable protection and durability, the HPL Series also accommodates the B-Line
division’s new High-Performance Cover Clamp. Offering a wind rating of up to 76 meters per
second, the lightweight cover clamp is available in standard or raised configurations and
stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanized material. The High-Performance Cover Clamps are
suitable for indoor and outdoor applications and are also compatible with the legacy Standard
Duty Ladder (SDL) and Heavy Duty Ladder Series cable ladders.
