POINTS OF PRIDE
 Kent State Ashtabula’s Viticulture and Enology programs are the only wine degrees offered
in the state of Ohio.
 Forty-four of our faculty members are published authors in subjects ranging from history
and politics to poetry.
 Kent State Ashtabula nursing students have a 94 percent pass rate on their National Council
of State Boards of Nursing Licensure Examination; 75 percent of all nurses in Ashtabula
County graduated from Kent State Ashtabula’s Nursing program.
 Since the start of the program in 2010, respiratory therapy graduates have had a 100
percent success rate at finding employment within six months of graduation.
 The Hospitality Management program is the only four-year program in Ohio accredited by
the Accreditation Commission of Programs in Hospitality Administration. Graduates of this
program are prepared for positions as managers in the thriving hospitality and tourism
industry in Ashtabula County and throughout Northeast Ohio.
 The Robert S. Morrison Health & Science Building houses the only cadaver lab between Erie,
PA and Cleveland, OH. The lab offers our allied health students hands-on experience for
anatomy and physiology classes.
 Faculty members include a Fulbright Scholar, three Kent State University Distinguished
Teaching Award recipients, and several international scholars.

Plans
Kent State’s Graduation Planning
System, or GPS, tracks student
progress to graduation. It includes
the student’s degree audit, which
includes all requirements for earning
a degree in the declared program, and
an individualized plan of study that the
student and their advisor create. The
plan of study outlines in semester-bysemester format the requirements
the student must complete in order
to remain on track for graduation. At
any point in time, a student and advisor
can see all program requirements and
their fulfillment status. GPS allows
students to view “what if” audits to
evaluate progress towards any Kent
State degree.
DEGREE PROGRAMS
Some students come to Kent State Ashtabula knowing exactly what they want
to major in; others are still exploring their options. Academic advisors can
help you choose a major, or you may find your passion through the general
education core classes you take. In addition, Kent State Ashtabula’s classes

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
Kent State Ashtabula students have many opportunities to expand their
learning outside the classroom. Internships, service projects and education
abroad activites are available.
Internships Kent State Ashtabula knows the importance of hands-on education, and many
of our degree programs offer class credit for internships in your degree field. You’ll find
our Viticulture and Enology students interning at vineyards and wineries across Northeast
Ohio, and our Hospitality Management students intern with several area businesses.
Students in our health degree programs complete their clinical education at top medical
facilities throughout Northeast Ohio.
Service Projects Kent State Ashtabula students believe in giving back to the community
and helping others. Our student clubs and organizations completed more than 35
community service projects last year. Whether it’s helping local business owners promote
their business for class credit or helping build a house for a homeless family, our students
take action to make life better for residents of Northeast Ohio.
Education Abroad During the 2012-2013 academic year, Kent State Ashtabula business
management students completed a research project for a Polish pasta company that
wanted to switch to eco-friendly packaging. Our RN to BSN nursing students assisted
residents in the Dominican Republic by providing basic medical care, teaching health
education classes to children and making safety improvements to local homes. The
opportunities are endless to participate in these types of projects at Kent State Ashtabula.
Study abroad can become a part of any degree program and provides you a once-ina-lifetime experience.


OUR CAMPUS
The Ashtabula campus consists of four buildings: Main Hall, the Library, the Bookstore,
and the Robert S. Morrison Health & Science Building (more commonly called the
Morrison Building). Most classes are held in Main Hall and in the Morrison Building. The
Library houses our Tutoring & Testing Services, and library staff are ready to help with
your research needs. The Bookstore sells and rents textbooks and carries specialized
supplies needed by health majors along with general supplies and Kent State apparel
and gifts. Admissions, Academic Advising, and Financial Aid are all housed in the Student
Services suite in Main Hall for your convenience.
Welcome Back Days
At the beginning of every semester, Kent State Ashtabula hosts Welcome Back Days. Join
us for free food, contests and prizes, information on student clubs and organizations,
upcoming events, and take a picture with Flash the golden eagle!
Where to go
Whether you’re looking for a place to meet up with friends or a quiet place to study, Kent
State Ashtabula offers a variety of venues to suit your needs. The Commons is the place
to meet friends for a group study session or to grab a bite to eat. The Courtyard in Main
Hall offers umbrella tables and a fountain for your enjoyment during the warm months,
and the new Student Lounge offers plenty of outlets for recharging your electronics
throughout the day.
What to eat
Whether you choose to eat on campus or just a mile away on Bridge Street, students have
a variety of choices for any meal. Located in the Commons, Loretta’s offers lunch counter
service and that essential cup of coffee from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Area restaurant specialties range from pizza and sub sandwiches to BBQ and fine dining.

As part of a wide-ranging strategic plan, Kent State Ashtabula is in the process of
transforming the entire campus, including updates to historic Main Hall. The series
of renovations and revitalizations will result in a comprehensive 21st-century campus
modernizing classrooms and laboratories, upgrading campus grounds with a new
central entrance and driveway, improving safety and accessibility and creating studentcentric spaces where collaborative learning can take place.

Safety
Kent State Ashtabula is committed to providing a proactive safety
program for our students. Safety measures include a security officer,
security escorts for students, and a well-lit campus. Students are
encouraged to sign up for Flash ALERTS, Kent State’s official emergency
text notification system. Flash ALERTS notify subscribers of critical information via text message or e-mail no matter
what time it is or where they are in the world. Flash ALERTS expand the university’s ability to send critical news and

Financial Aid
No matter what your family’s financial circumstances are, we can help you
find a way to manage college costs. The staff in our Financial Aid Office works
with students and their families to help make a Kent State Ashtabula education
affordable through grants, loans, campus employment, and scholarship
opportunities.
With low tuition rates, a Kent State Ashtabula education is within your reach. The
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available beginning January
1st of each year. By filing the FAFSA by the priority filing deadline of March 1st,
you will be considered for the maximum amount of aid for which you are eligible.
Eighty-five percent of all Kent State Ashtabula students receive some form of
financial assistance from federal, state and institutional aid programs.

Scholarships
Approximately $200,000 in scholarships were awarded to Kent State Ashtabula
students during the 2014-2015 school year. The generosity of local families,
companies and organizations allows the students to earn a university degree
who otherwise would not have had the opportunity.
We are committed to working hard to remove part of the higher education
financial barrier to so that students may concentrate on being successful.
The yearly deadline for scholarship applications is March 31st. Scholarship
application booklets are available from Student Services on campus, on our
website, or through your high school guidance office.
Kent State University at Ashtabula students have gone on to work in Fortune
500 companies, regional hospitals and healthcare settings, and at the many
industries in Ashtabula County. 100 percent of our Respiratory Therapy
graduates found jobs within six months of graduation.

Campus Visit Days are designed to provide
prospective students and their families with an
overview of Kent State Ashtabula. During visit
days, prospective students will hear from an
admissions representative. The presentation
includes information about admissions,
financial aid, academic programs and student
support services. Following the presentation,
there will be a walking tour of the campus.
The presentation and tour last approximately

NEW FRESHMAN
A new freshman is someone who has not
attended any college, university, technical
or proprietary school after graduation from
high school. A student who has taken college
coursework while in high school should apply
as a freshman. Home-schooled students are
welcome as well. To apply for admission, new
freshman must submit an application, official
high school transcripts, and the $40
application fee.
TRANSFER STUDENTS
A transfer student is someone who was
enrolled at another college, university, technical or proprietary school after high school. To
apply for admission, transfer students should
submit official transcripts from all colleges or
schools previously attended, plus high school
transcripts and the $40 application fee.
GUEST STUDENTS
If you would like to complete a few courses at
Kent State, the guest application may be right
for you. A guest student is one who wants to
take a limited number of courses at Kent State
and who has no current interest in pursuing a
degree. To be admitted as a guest student at
the undergraduate level, you must have earned
a high school diploma, a GED certificate, or
the equivalent. The guest application does not
require transcripts or an application fee. As an
undergraduate guest student, you may attempt
no more than 18 semester hours, and you are
not eligible for financial aid.
Those who have previously
been denied admission to
a degree program at Kent
State may not be admitted
as a guest student. After
completing courses as a
guest student, if you choose
to pursue a Kent State
degree or want to continue
beyond the 18-hour credit
limit, you will need to apply
for regular admission.

POST-SECONDARY
ENROLLMENT OPTIONS
Kent State Ashtabula’s Post-Secondary Enrollment
Options (PSEO) Program is designed to provide
qualified high school students with access to college
level course work. College courses taken under the
PSEO Program may also fulfill high school graduation requirements, if approved by the student’s local
school district.
Applicants to the PSEO Program should have a
cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 or
higher, a minimum ACT composite score of 23 and
COMPASS scores that indicate college readiness.
Students must also have a B average in the subject
area in which they desire to enroll at the University.
Students who do not meet these criteria are eligible
to apply for admission and will be evaluated for
acceptance to the PSEO Program based on their
high school curriculum, cumulative high school
grade point average, ACT scores, and letters of
recommendation.
