Why Kent State?
Accelerate
Your Academic
Success
Academic excellence is a cornerstone
of Kent State University. That’s
why we welcome graduates of
International Baccalaureate
schools to continue their world-class
education at Kent State. From
unique academic opportunities
to an attractive campus setting,
International Baccalaureate students
will discover numerous beneficial
advantages of a Kent State
education.
Academic Credit
Depending on your IB test areas and resulting
exam scores, you can earn instant academic
credit for courses equivalent to your liberal
education requirements (see guide at right) –
enabling you to bypass those courses and
immediately accelerate your studies. You’ll also
create greater flexibility in your course schedule,
enjoy a semester or two with more free time,
potentially reduce you overall tuition expense
and in some programs even graduate sooner
than expected.
Honors College
International Baccalaureate students are also
encouraged to apply to the Honors College, an
exclusive community of academic excellence
and achievement. As a student in the Honors
College, you will enjoy the benefits of a close-knit
community of dedicated fellow scholars, smaller
class sizes, the ability to participate in research
programs within your chosen field, one-on-one
academic guidance by faculty mentors, additional
opportunities for education abroad and a diverse
range of classes that are structured to give you a
deeper, more intensive learning experience.
Scholarships
ent State offers its students a variety of scholarK
ship awards. In order to be considered for scholarships, all students must take the ACT or SAT.
Please visit the university scholarship website for
more information about individual scholarship
deadlines and requirements.
A Kent State education also offers you countless
more life-enriching experiences. Blessed with
spacious, tree-lined grounds, Kent State provides
both a diverse, multi-cultural student population
and a safe, secure campus setting. The town of
Kent, known as Tree City, is centrally located in
Northeast Ohio, home to many of the world’s
most respected corporations, as well as a wealth of
internationally known cultural attractions. Nature
abounds in Northeast Ohio, including the nearby
Cuyahoga Valley National Park, the Great Lakes
and the Appalachian Mountain chain. Several
major metropolitan areas – Cleveland, Chicago,
Pittsburgh, Detroit, New York City, Washington
DC and Toronto – are within easy reach by car,
bus or train, while two local airports give you rapid
access anywhere in the world.
The Northeast Ohio area is also one of the most
affordable places to live in the U.S. – add Kent
State’s reasonable tuition costs and you have a
highly favorable match between the cost and quality
of your education.
With all it has to offer, why wouldn’t you want to accelerate
yourself at Kent State University?
As an International Baccalaureate student
at Kent State, you’ll enjoy the benefits of (top
to bottom) earned academic credits that allow
you to bypass designated courses; significant
research opportunities within our Honors
College; a safe, secure, tree-lined campus
that‘s within easy reach of numerous social,
cultural and natural attractions; and ample
opportunities to supplement your education
with overseas study programs.
