What is the FASFA4caster?
Math
FAFSA4caster is an online tool that will help students get an early start on the financial aid process by:
1. Providing an estimate of federal student aid eligibility.
2. Giving an experience similar to FAFSA on the Web.
3. Increasing knowledge of the financial aid process and providing information about other sources of aid.
What’s the Cost?
The cost of attendance is a comprehensive planning budget that consists of tuition
and fees, housing, meal plan, books, transportation and personal expenses. Of those
components, the direct cost owed to Kent State University includes tuition and fees, oncampus housing and a meal plan. Amounts listed below represent average 2014-2015
academic year expenses and are subject to change for 2015-2016. Additional fees may
include program fees and special course fees.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
Students must have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of zero based on the results of the FAFSA. The dollar amount can
vary based on financial need and enrollment status. Students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours (half-time) each term.
Kent State University offers scholarships to outstanding incoming freshman students. Students who submit a complete application
for admission (including test scores, transcripts and paid application fee) by Jan. 15 and who are admitted to the Kent Campus will
automatically be considered for the following scholarships:
September - December
April - May

 Apply for a Federal Student Aid PIN at www.pin.ed.gov.
If the student is dependent, at least one parent must also apply. The PIN will serve as an electronic signature on
the FAFSA. The process may change after the development of this publication. For updates, please visit the Department of Education website at www.ed.gov.
 File the 2015-2016 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov by Feb. 15 for priority
processing and to ensure maximum financial aid eligibility.

 If you plan to enroll at Kent State University for a
summer semester and would like to use your financial
aid, complete the Summer Aid Request Form at
www.kent.edu/financialaid/summer.
 Register for Destination Kent State at
www.kent.edu/destination.
Incoming non-Ohio Residents admitted to the Kent Campus will also be considered for the President’s Grant,
University Award and President’s Scholarship.
 To make an informed decision about borrowing a student loan, utilize tools and information available on our financial
literacy website at www.kent.edu/financialaid/literacy. Students are strongly encouraged to create a budget to project their expenses prior to attending. Loans are funds
that must be repaid; so only borrow what you need after careful consideration.
 If borrowing federal student loans:
 Students must accept, decline or reduce federal
loans via FlashLine.
 First-time borrowers: Sign the Master Promissory
Note and complete Entrance Loan Counseling at www.studentloans.gov.
 Parents can apply for the Federal Direct PLUS by visiting www.studentloans.gov.
 View information about direct loan interest rates and repayment of federal loans at www.studentaid.ed.gov.
 If borrowing a private/alternative student loan, compare lender options and apply through
www.kent.edu/financialaid/fastchoice.
 If awarded institutional scholarships from Kent State University, accept via FlashLine.
 Attend the Financial Aid session and receive the “Your Financial Plan” document at Destination Kent State.
• Scholarship awarding is based on cumulative high school GPA and test scores (ACT or SAT taken before Dec. 31).
• In some cases, financial need, academic major, extracurricular activities and demonstrated leadership are also
considered during the selection process.
• Most scholarships are renewable for an additional six consecutive terms, for a total of eight terms, provided students
meet specific renewal criteria for each scholarship.
• Scholarship offers may include a combination of several scholarship programs.
• Visit the Honors College website at www.kent.edu/honors for additional information regarding the admissions process and deadlines.
Kent State University Transfer Student Scholarships
• Transfer Students who will attend the Kent Campus should apply and be admitted to Kent State University no later than
Jun. 1 to ensure consideration for the following scholarships awarded by the Admissions Office and the Student Financial
Aid Office:
Transfer Student Scholarship, Kent Bound Scholarship, Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship, the University Award
(for non-Ohio residents only) and Honors Academic Achievement Award (requires Honors College membership).
• Visit the Admissions Office’s website for specific information about each scholarship.
• Scholarship awards are based on academic performance (cumulative GPA from all prior colleges attended) and in
some cases students’ academic major, financial need, extracurricular activities and demonstrated leadership.
Kent State University Continuing Scholarships
Students can research and apply for scholarships awarded by various departments at Kent State University by visiting
the Online Scholarship Search Qualifier at www.kent.edu/financialaid/scholarships.
June - August
 Review your Kent State University email account (beginning in July) for email notification regarding your e-bills published by
the Bursar’s Office (billing office).
 Visit the Bursar’s Office at www.kent.edu/bursar for detailed billing and due date information.
 Review Bursar’s Office FAQ including important information about Authorization of Title IV Aid (federal aid)
at www.kent.edu/bursar.
 Make a refund selection after receiving your KSU Choice Card in the mail by logging in to www.KSUChoiceCard.com.
Regional Campus Scholarships
Students who will attend a Regional Campus should contact that campus for more information regarding scholarship
opportunities and deadlines. Students can visit the Online Scholarship Search Qualifier at www.kent.edu/financialaid/
scholarships to find additional information on Regional Campus scholarships.
• Regional Campus students who are transitioning to the Kent Campus and want to be considered for the Kent Campus

Federal Pell Grant - $585-$5,730*
Award eligibility is based on the results of the FAFSA and the student’s enrollment status.
State Grants - For information about grant programs offered by the State of Ohio, please visit the Ohio Board of Regents
website at www.ohiohighered.org/sgs. Pennsylvania residents should refer to the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance
Authority website at www.pheaa.org. Students from other states should contact their state grant awarding agency, if
applicable, for more information.
Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant Program (TEACH) - Amount varies based on
enrollment. Students must be enrolled in a TEACH-grant-eligible program and agree to teach in a high-need field in a school
serving low-income students as designated by the U.S. Department of Education. For more detailed information, please visit
www.studentaid.gov.
Work (Student Employment)
The Student Financial Aid Office awards Federal Work Study (FWS) to students based on the results of the FAFSA and financial
need. The FWS award is not deducted from students’ e-bill. Students receive a bi-weekly paycheck based on hours worked.
Limited funding available.
Once awarded FWS, students should visit the Career Services Center regarding student-employment requirements and job
opportunities at www.kent.edu/career. Students who are not awarded FWS may contact the Career Services Center to apply
for a University Funded position.
Loans
In order to receive federal loans, students must be enrolled at least half-time (6 undergraduate hours, 4 graduate hours). For additional
information on federal loans, visit www.studentloans.gov.
Federal Direct Loan Program
Dependent student maximum:
$ 5,500* - Freshman
$ 6,500* - Sophomore
$ 7,500* - Junior, Senior - pursuing bachelor’s degree
Independent student maximum:

Federal Direct PLUS Loan
Amount limited to cost of attendance minus financial aid. Available to parents of dependent students and/or the step-parent on
the FAFSA. Parent must complete a credit-based PLUS request at www.studentloans.gov. If credit is denied, student becomes
eligible for the independent student loan amounts listed above.
Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan
Amount limited to cost of attendance minus financial aid. Graduate applicants must exhaust all other Federal Direct Loan
eligibility and complete a credit-based Graduate PLUS request at www.studentloans.gov.
Federal Perkins Loan - Eligibility based on financial need. Amount varies. Limited funding available. Federal regulatory updates
may affect the availability of funding after the development of this publication. For updates, please visit the Department of Education
website at www.ed.gov.
Federal Nursing Student Loan - Maximum award $3,000*. Available for nursing majors only. Limited funding available.
Private/Alternative Loans

Maintaining Eligibility for Financial Aid
Students are required to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress each term to remain eligible for financial aid. Please
