The College Supports Program Frequently Asked Questions How is the College Supports Program related to Eastern Michigan University (EMU)? The College of Health and Human Services at EMU is home to the College Supports Program (CSP). The CSP Directors are full-­‐time tenured faculty. The CSP is integrated into the fabric of the university with collaboration across departments, programs, and services throughout the university community. If I am accepted to the CSP, does it mean that I am automatically accepted into Eastern Michigan University? No, applicants must first apply to Eastern Michigan University. Upon acceptance to EMU, they may apply to the CSP. Applicants must meet EMU’s admission requirements as determined by the university. Is an interview necessary for acceptance into the College Supports Program? Yes. The College Supports Program is a highly personalized program; therefore an in-­‐person on-­‐campus interview is required. Students and their families can also tour the EMU campus and learn about the many academic programs that are available. And, most importantly, the interview will help determine if this is the right program for the student. What is the cost of the College Supports Program? The fees for College Supports Program range from $5000 to $8,000 per semester. This is in addition to Eastern Michigan University tuition/fees and room/board. Are there any sources for financial assistance? There are a number of funding streams available for students with autism spectrum disorder, which include Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Prepaid College Savings Plans, Community Mental Health/Medicaid, financial aid loans, and private scholarships. Funding through Community Mental Health/Medicaid varies from state to state, please check with your local Medicaid office. Pell Grants and Perkins and Stafford Loans may also be used to pay these fees. Private scholarships available to students with HFA and AD include: the CVS All Kids Can Scholars Program, the Schwallie Family Scholarship Program, and the Jan LaBelle Scholarship Program. The CSP staff will assist students with resources and referrals to access these funding opportunities. How do I apply to the College Supports Program? Request an application packet at pamela.lemerand@emich.edu 1 What information is required to complete my application to the College Supports Program? Current (within the past 3 years) evaluations in the areas of cognition including intelligence • Evidence of academic achievement in the form of grades (transcripts/report cards) and standardized achievement tests • Adaptive behavior measures completed by school personnel and family members • Phone interviews by the College Supports Program with high school or college personnel when possible • School behavior intervention plans: and • Letters of support from current teachers, if the student is still in high school. •
