Plan Now for Spring Break 2016
As your student may be home more during winter break, this could be a
good time to talk to him or her about the possibility of participating in
Alternative Spring Break. The Office of Experiential Education and Civic
Engagement will be offering an information session Monday, January 25,
2016 from 3:00 to 3:45 in room 143 of the Center for Undergraduate
Excellence. These trips will take place March 19-25 and will expose your
student to social justice and cultural issues through direct service,
community visits, reflection, and a variety of cultural activities. Site
locations include: Chicago, Cincinnati, Washington, D.C., Buffalo, among
others. To learn more, click here.
Understanding Academic Standing
As your student concludes his or her first semester of college, he or she
(and you!) may have questions about academic standing. The
descriptions below should help all of you to understand what these terms
mean.
President’s List: Student must have a 4.000 GPA in the semester and
must have completed 15 or more credit hours (all of which must have
regular letter grades) by the end of that semester. This notation will be
printed on the official transcripts.
Dean’s List: Student must have a minimum 3.400 GPA for the semester
and must have completed 12 or more regular letter-graded credit hours
that semester. This notation will be printed on the official transcripts.
Good Academic Standing: Students with a minimum 2.000 GPA are in
good academic standing.
Semester Warning: Students with a minimum 2.000 cumulative GPA who
earn a semester GPA of less than 2.000 in any given semester will be
placed on semester warning.
Academic Probation: Students who don’t have a minimum 2.000
cumulative GPA will be placed on academic probation. Students on
probation must reduce their course load to 15 hours maximum. The
student should reduce participation in social and extracurricular activities.
Students are removed from probation only when they have achieved a
minimum 2.000 cumulative GPA. Students on probation will be notified by
the dean’s office.
Academic Dismissal: Students whose academic performance indicates a
limited chance of obtaining the minimum grades required for graduation
will be subject to dismissal from the university. Students who are
dismissed have the opportunity to appeal the dismissal. Dismissed
students may apply for reinstatement to the University after a minimum
period of time has past.
