Greetings to parents and families! I am very pleased to welcome you to the A&S
Connect Newsletter. As the father of a son in college, I have the same questions
about his experiences and the many pathways he must navigate as a new
student. It is my hope that this new newsletter will give you a closer connection
with the college. We certainly welcome any questions you might have.
You will receive these communications on a monthly basis. They are intended
to: keep you updated on campus events, provide resources to help your student
perform at his or her best, and inform you of important policies and dates that
impact your Golden Flash. If at any point you no longer wish to receive the A&S
Connect Newsletter, please unsubscribe at the bottom of the page. We look
forward to partnering with you to make your student's first year a great
experience in the College of Arts and Sciences at Kent State University.
Welcome to our Kent State family! Go Flashes!

What to Expect in the First Few Weeks Welcome Weekend Starting college is a new adventure for many students and families. With adventure comes confidence, insecurity, freedom, loneliness…all
at the same time. The first few weeks of the semester can be tough for
any student and their family. Here are some things to watch for in the first few weeks, as well as links
to websites that share how to support your student: Week 1: Move‐in Day, Welcome Weekend, and the First Day of Class
Welcome Weekend is a weekend packed full of
fun activities and events starting Thursday,
August 27th through Sunday, August 30th.
Students will move into their residence halls
and attend their first hall meeting. Throughout
the weekend, students will have the
opportunity to meet fellow classmates in their
First Year Experience class, and get to know
their way around Kent State's campus. This
year's events include a comedian, Convocation,
FYE Common Reading, Discover Downtown
Kent, and Blastoff! For more information and a schedule of
