Joint PhD Scholarship Opportunity – Philosophy: Monash University, Australia & The University of Warwick, U.K. Faculty of Arts Monash University Faculty of Social Sciences Warwick University Departments Philosophy Program (School of Philosophical, Historical and International Studies, Monash) Department of Philosophy, Warwick Location Clayton Campus Warwickshire Campus Supervisors Dr. Michael Ure (Monash) Professor Keith Ansell-Pearson (Warwick) Remuneration $28,715 per annum full time rate (tax free stipend) The Opportunity We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated student to conduct research on early modern and modern French philosophy’s reception and transformation of the classical and Hellenistic model of philosophy as a way of life (Montaigne to Foucault). The successful applicant will have the opportunity to participate in the Australian Research Council funded discovery project ‘Reinventing Philosophy as a Way of Life’. This will include assisting with English translations of Jean-Marie Guyau’s books. S/he will be located at two of the world’s leading philosophy departments and on completion will be awarded a joint Monash University/University of Warwick PhD. In 2013 Monash University’s Philosophy department received the highest Australian Research Council rating of 5 stars and recently ranked in top 30 QS world university rankings by subject. The University of Warwick’s Philosophy Department is renowned for its research in modern European philosophy. Candidate Requirements The successful applicant must have (a) the equivalent of an Australian first class honours degree in philosophy (or cognate discipline); and (b) academic standard French language skills. The scholarship is open to Australian, U.K. and nonAustralian students and is funded at the rate of the Australian Postgraduate Award.
