Placement
The
department
F2 General Psychiatry Community
The placement would be at the Brentwood Resource Centre in Brentwood which is a
community based Mental Health Team covering Recovery and well being. Team consists of
Psychiatrist, CPNs, Social workers, Psychologists and Occupational Therapists. There are
out-patient clinics, Depot Clinic, Physical Health Clinic, Art Psychotherapy and various Group
therapies. There is also placement at Basildon, The department is part of the South Essex
Partnership NHS Trust and is based at the Mental Health Unit on the premises of the Basildon
General Hospital. The services provided include Acute admission assessment unit, General
adult psychiatry inpatient wards, Old age psychiatry inpatient ward and the Psychiatric
Intensive care unit. The team also provides the Psychiatry Liaison service to the DGH. In
addition to this there is also community services and outpatient clinic based in the same unit
and in the community. There is a well resourced Psychotherapy and psychology department
lead by consultant Psychotherapist.
The Mental Health Unit caters for a population of around 300,000 from the Basildon and
Thurrock areas.

psychiatric problems
 Educate patients effectively

Main duties
The Foundation doctor is responsible with other staff, for conducting outpatient clinics, writing
of the
letters to the GP, review of previous records of patients, formulation of management plans,
placement
attend MDT meetings.
They will be included on the on-call rota for the mental health services to provide out of hours
cover for the wards and A&E Liaison.
They are encouraged to attend the structured teaching programmes provided for the
psychiatric trainees. The doctor will be responsible for such other specific clinical duties as
allocated by consultants including performing other duties in occasional emergencies and
unforeseen circumstances.

F2 General Adult Psychiatry Community
The multi-disciplinary team/service comprises of General Adult Consultants, I Staff Grade,
Senior Trainee, Community Psychiatric Nurses, Social Workers, Support Workers,
Psychologists, Psychotherapists and Occupational Therapists. The team offers clinical
assessment service (the gate keeper to Secondary Services) and a Duty System (whereny a
Duty Worker is available 5 days a week during work hours for emergency consultation) There
is a well resourced Psychotherapy and psychology department lead by consultant
Psychotherapist.

There is opportunity to participate in Mental Health Act assessments. There is also opportunity
to take part in audit activities and this is encouraged.
We have weekly academic meetings attended by external speakers, clinical review clubs,
case conferences and weekly journal clubs for trainees. You will also have the opportunity to
undertake teaching for medical students.
Meeting your clinical supervisor is held on a weekly basis and the allocated one-hour slot is on
Friday afternoon from 2.00-3.00pm.

Main duties
This post is primarily based in the community. The Foundation Doctor will be attached to a
of the
Consultant who will be their Clinical supervisor. The work involves clerking and regular review
placement
of patients. The Foundation doctor will always be supervised in their work by senior doctors.
They will also receive dedicated one hour of individual supervision with their Consultant. The
doctors will also be conducting outpatient clinics under consultant supervision. There will be
opportunities to do home visits with senior members of Community Mental Health Team, take
part in Mental Health act assessments, take part in health and well-being clinics jointly run by
Occupational Therapists and medical staff and take part in multidisciplinary team meetings. In
patient experience can be gained if required as part of training. There will also be opportunity
to gain experience in ECT. There are numerous opportunities for audit and research
participation. The clinical supervisor is also Clinical Director of Community services and there
are ample opportunities for management experience and an opportunity to contribute to
educating other professionals within the multidisciplinary team.
