Education, Collaboration and Innovation!

Catherine T.

("Katie")

Hunt, Ph.D.

Dow Chemical's R&D Director, Innovation Sourcing & Sustainable Technologies

Dr. Hunt started as a senior scientist in analytical research at

Rohm and Haas, moving up over the next 25 years through such unique assignments as its International ACNET Manager and, ultimately, Director for Corporate Sustainability and Leader for

Technology Partnerships.

In 2007, she was President of the American Chemical Society. In the same year, she was elected a Fellow of the AAAS and named one of the “Best 50 Women in Business” by Pennsylvania’s

Governor Rendell.

In 2009, when Dow Chemical acquired Rohm and Haas, Katie continued to champion sustainability collaborations, such as the

Dow / ECA-Philadelphia RetroFIT Philly “Coolest Block” Contest.

As we approach "IYC 2011," the International Year of Chemistry, I truly believe that there has never been a better time to be a Chemist or Chemistry professional. Never before have we faced such enormous world challenges with regard to energy, food and water; and never before have we had such a direct impact on the quality of life on our planet.

Now is the time for all of us to focus on what we do, and to do it both efficiently and productively. It’s time to think holistically: in terms of systems and life-cycle assessment. Conserving natural resources is only a start. We Chemists will create those products and processes that use less energy, food and water. This starts with education (defining sustainability); collaboration (working together and celebrating successes); and innovation (recreating our cities, our communities and ourselves).

We’ll highlight Dow’s 2015 Goals and the technologies being developed to meet these goals.

Please join us for refreshments at about 4:30 in the Charter Street Atrium
