JOB SHADOWING EVENT
You are invited to SHRM job shadowing event on Thursday and Friday, February 5th and 6th!
Job shadowing is a wonderful opportunity for us as a student, to better understand a career path in the human
resources profession. Shadowing also helps us see how our textbook learning can be applied in the real world. There
is absolutely no reason why we cannot participate in this invaluable practice.
The career-exploration aspect of job shadowing is certainly one of its benefits. As a student we can start to think
about careers since we are about to embark on careers soon. This job shadowing event is our chance to try on jobs by
visiting workplaces and observing its typical working environment. We can also learn a lot more about companies by
experiencing them in the actual trenches than you can in any other way. For example, you know what type of career
you want to enter, but are unsure of which companies in that field to target in your job-search. Job-shadowing can
reveal inside information about company culture that can guide you in determining which companies to apply to.
Job shadowing company participants include: Quicken loans, City of Ann Arbor, Systems in Motions, Eastern Michigan
University- Human Resources, PMA Consultants, Varrock Lightning, and many more. Don’t miss out on this great
opportunity!

7 Things You Can Learn From A Company’s Website
In your effort to find the right job and advance your
career, you will need to learn a lot about many potential
employers. When you take the time to research
companies, you'll be able to strengthen your candidacy
from what you say in you cover letter all the way through
the process of gaining and evaluating offers of
employment.
There are many ways you can research employers, but
often a company's own website will give you the key
information you need. Here are seven things job seekers
can glean just by paying attention to what a company puts
online for all to see:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
Company Overview
Available Positions
Employer Brand
Events Calendar
Company in the news
Leadership team
Financials
Of course, you don't need to know every detail about a
company before you apply, but you should know enough
to show you've done some research and aren't just
randomly distributing your résumé.
Once a dialog begins, you should go deeper and deeper
into the company site. Your research will pay off in your
interviews, and even more when you have to make the
decision of whether or not to accept a company's offer of
employment.
