RudyAcunaishelpingtwo,small‐townmedicalclinicsinnorthernMichigan.Theownershavebeen
strugglingwithalloftheHealthCareReformAct’schangesandadjustmentsthatwillaffectthemasa
businessandasmedicalprovidersintheStateofMichigan.Anemployeehandbookwillbedonetomatch
requirementsforBlueCrossBlueShieldformedicalcoverageandtheHealthCareReformAct.
EricBainwilldesignatemporaryemployeepoolfora500+employeedepartmentthattrainsandprepares
humanassetswhowillbeavailabledailytoworkwithinallthreejobdescriptionswithinthedepartment.
Thiswork‐flowsystemwillguarantee40hoursaweekforwell‐trained,temporaryemployeestoworkfor
call‐insandpre‐approvedprojectsacrossallthreeshiftsinallfivebuildinglocations.Theintentistolower
expenses,improveemployeesatisfactionandcustomersatisfaction,aswellastoimproveproductivity.

residentialcommunityofDetroit.Hewilldevelopjobanalysesfor15+employees,atooltomaintainand
developnewjobdescriptions,andarolegeneratortooltomaximizeperformanceofTitleVemployees
providedbythegovernment.
RichardGlover’sprojectwillbewithPolkinSouthfield,Michigan.Hewillresearchanddefinedomestic
partnerships,i.e.howaretheyproven,qualifiers,andwhatpolicycouldbemosteffectiveforPolk.This
researchwillsummarizeHRbestpracticesandprovidearecommendationtailoredtoPolk.
LaurieGrahamiscreatinganEmployeeHandbook,fromscratch,forasmallbusinessnamedDexterRent‐
All.Theowners,DougandStephanieSchoch,startedthecompanyayearagoandarepreparingtohire
employeesinthenextfewmonths.Thehandbookwillincludelegalinformationaswellasinformation
pertinenttoemployeeperformanceandbehavioralexpectations.
NicoleHaskettwilldesignanewhirepresentationandonboardingchecklistwhichwillincludeanewhire
manualwithallpaperworkandorientationinformationfortheNeurosurgerydepartmentattheUniversity
ofMichigan.
LaurenJohnsonwillassistanot‐for‐profitorganizationindesigninganewprogramforaclinicalprocess
theyplantooffertheirclientsbyMay2013.Shewilldevelopaclinicalproceduredocument,facilitiesand
materialsrequirementsdocument,andpositiondescriptiondocumenttohelprollouttheprogramatthe
pilotlocationinaccordancewithstateandnationalregulations.
RebeccaMerritt’sprojectwillbewithDTEEnergyanditson‐boardingprocedures.Shewillbeconductinga
needsassessmentfromwhichauniversaltemplate/checklistwillbedesignedtoofferbusinessunitssupport
whenon‐boardinganemployee.Shewillcreateaslidedeckthatwillteachleadersaboutwhaton‐boardingis
andhowitimpactstheorganizationandemployees.Toolsandresourceswillalsobeprovidedtosupport
DTEleadersandbusinessunits.
ArpitaPatel’sprojectwillinvolveorganizationdevelopmenttoenhanceindividualandteamwork
competenciesofayouthgroupinareligiousorganization.Morespecifically,theprojectwillpertainto
planningaone‐dayworkshoponpresentationskills,aswellasteambuildingactivities.
StephanieThomisworkingwithagrowingfinancialinstitutiontoimproveitsinternshipprogram.Shewill
createperformanceappraisalsthatwillhelpinternsgrowfromtheirexperience.Additionally,shewillcreate
anorientationhandbookandtrainingforthefirstdayofaninternship.Finally,shewillconductaSWOT
analysiswithfinalrecommendationstoimprovetheprogram.

WhatSunnyfoundmostattractiveabouttheMSHRODprogram,andwhatledtohisenrollmentin
theprogram,wasthestrategicnatureoftheprogram.Heappreciatedthedualnatureofthe
programwhichfeaturedcourseworkinbothhumanresourcesandorganizationaldevelopment.He
alsoenjoyedthathalfofthecourseworkfortheMSHRODprograminChinawastaughtbyEastern
MichiganUniversityfaculty.
Whileseveralofthespecificcompensation,employeerelations,staffingandtrainingpracticesdo
notimmediatelypertaintoapplicationinChina,whatSunnyfoundmosthelpfulfromhisMSHROD
programstudieswerethestrategicskillsheacquired.Sunnyassertedthatthroughtheprogramhe
developedanewwayofperceivingandaddressingproblems.TheprogramtaughtSunnyhow,
whenconfrontedwithamanagementproblem,totakethefirststeptoaddressthisproblemby
diagnosingandanalyzingtheproblemfromtheperspectiveofaconsultantandthenreacha
solutionbyapplyingthemechanismshelearnedintheMSHRODprogram.Sunnyatteststhatthis
approachtosolvingproblemswillbeinvaluableforhimasabusinesspractitioner.
SpecificadvicethatSunnyhasforcurrentstudentsintheMSHRODprogramistobeopen‐minded
aboutnewconceptswhichareintroducedintheprogram.HealsourgescurrentMSHRODstudents
togobeyondtheircomfortzoneandboundariesandextendtheirnetworktoincludepeoplewho
theycurrentlydonotknowwell.Tothisextent,SunnyurgescurrentstudentsoftheMSHROD
