REQUIREMENTS: 30 credit hours
1. Students must take LITR 510 Critical Practices in Literary Studies in their first semester.
2. Students must take LITR 511 Literary Criticism, preferably right after completing LITR 510.
3. Students must take 2 courses (6 hours) in Medieval/Renaissance literature.
4. Students must take 2 classes (6 hours) in 18th/19 th century literature.
5. Students must take 2 classes (6 hours) in 20 th century literature.
6. Students must also take 2 elective or cognate courses (6 hours).
Note: Graduate Assistants whose assignments requirement them to take ENGL 596 will count this course as one of their two electives.
7. Students must complete a final project: either by taking the MA Exam or completing a thesis.
