Housing
All students attending Band Camp are responsible for their own housing
arrangements. For our information, please indicate your housing status
for Band Camp on the registration return card provided in this packet. You
MUST notify the EMU Band office no later than August 15 if you are on a
University Housing Contract. Failure to do so may result in your inability
to move in early to your residence.
Please note:
• If you signed a University Housing Contract for Fall 2015, you will be
permitted to move into your assigned room on Sunday, August 30, from
2:00-4:00p.m. University Housing assignments are scheduled to be
announced on or shortly after August 1.
• If living off-campus or commuting for Band Camp, please indicate so
on the return registration card. If renting an apartment in the campus
area for the fall, it may be possible for you to arrange for early move-in.
Please contact your rental office for more information.
• If you are absolutely unable to make arrangements for your own
housing in either case above, limited temporary housing arrangements
may be available courtesy of the Brothers and Sisters of Kappa Kappa
Psi and Tau Beta Sigma. Please contact the EMU Band office at
734.487.1430 for more information.
EMU Marching Band Costs
Costs associated with the EMU MB must be paid at Pre-Camp or
Band Camp Registration at Alexander Music Building with a single check
made payable to EMU Bands or cash, with the exception of the EMU MB
Member Fee as that will be charged to your EMU Student Account when
you register for the course.
EMU MB Member Fee:$75- This fee includes all uniform cleaning fees for the season, member t-shirt, hat, and selected band camp meals. (Charged to student account)
Marching Shoes:
Shoes will be ordered and distributed by EMU Bands.
$40 - Wind and Percussion
$38 - Colorguard
Gloves:
$5 - Winds (incl. 2 pairs: practice & performance)
$15 - Colorguard
Flip Folder:
$8 - Winds
Parking Permit:
See “Parking on Campus” on reverse page.
Meals:
All students will be provided at least one meal
per day during the band camp. Students are
responsible for providing all other meals.
(Gloves are available in S, M, L, XL.)
First Four New Student Orientation
Parking on Campus
New students to EMU will be able to participate in most of the First Four
New Student Orientation Activities. The Band Camp schedule (included
in this packet) is designed to help balance participation in Orientation
and Band Camp activities. At morning rehearsal on Thursday, September 3rd
at 9:00a.m. at the EMU MB Practice Field Campus Life will hold a special
meeting for all new students to discuss the orientation activities and
how they can participate while attending Band Camp rehearsals and
performances.
Parking on campus during the summer months is strictly enforced. Parking
during Band Camp will only be allowed in Green Lot #2 at no cost, but you
must submit your name, vehicle make and license plate number at Band
Camp registration. At the conclusion of Band Camp and throughout the
Fall Semester, a valid University hang tag (available from Parking Control
on campus) will be required for parking on campus. Students who need
to have a car on campus during the Fall Semester can contact Parking
Control (734.487.3450 or check the university’s website www.emich.edu/
parking) in August to obtain a hang tag in advance.
Marching Band Auditions
All brass & woodwind students (who did not audition at Pre-Camp) will
complete playing auditions with a Graduate Assistant following band
camp registration. The audition can be scheduled upon registration at
the Alexander Music Building and will consist primarily of the chromatic
scale, sight reading, and the Eagles Fight Song. This audition is for part
placement only.
Supplies for Band Camp
Instrument & lyre
Spending money
Bed linens (sheets, pillowcase, pillow, blanket, etc.)
Sunscreen
Student I.D.
Comfortable clothing for rehearsals
Sunglasses, hat or visor
Tennis shoes for marching rehersals and band camp performances
(No flip flops allowed for outdoor rehearsals)
Khaki (tan) Shorts/Pants (for two band camp performances)
Shorts must be at least mid-thigh length
Raincoat
Alarm clock
Personal medical needs (medicine, bandages, pain relief, braces, wraps, etc.)
*Water bottle!!!
*If interested, EMU Bands water bottles will be for sale at
Pre-Camp and Band Camp from Kappa Kappa Psi.
Medical History & Insurance Form
The enclosed Medical History and Student Insurance Form MUST be
completed and returned (along with a copy of your health insurance card)
to the Band Office for participation in Marching Band. Please submit these
forms at Pre-Camp or Band Camp registration.

Please refer to the Band Handbook (distributed at Pre-Camp) for complete
information regarding attendance, grading, uniforms, course registration,
instrument loan policy, image use policy, band awards, and the 2015
performance schedule.
