Eastern Michigan University Women in Philanthropy at EMU Strengthening, Educating and Giving to the EMU community FALL 2014 VOLUME 5 ISSUE 1 WIP-EMU invited to round table on Philanthropy Linda Pritchard and Karen Paciorek parcipated in a roundtable on philanthropy led by Denise Ilitch and sponsored by Ambassador magazine. Look for the arcle in the December issue of Ambassador. The magazine, published by Denise Ilitch and Dennis Archer, Jr. , just rolled out its 50th issue. Denise asked each of the parcipants to share a bit about their role in philanthropy. Doug Ferrick ,V.P. of United Way for Southeast MI, is an EMU alum. Doug attended our October 22nd WIP Executive Board meeting to find out more about our group and how we operate. He shared news about a new women’s group the United Way of Southeast MI is starting called Women United. This has been a busy past few months for members joining WIP-EMU. We Welcome the following new members: Marcella Fox Brown Jacqueline Goodman Peggy Liggit Mary Ramsey Stephanie Robinson Linda Pritchard presented informaon about WIP-EMU to the EMU Foundaon Board on October 10th. The Board was very impressed with our accomplishments and were pleased to hear how our grants make an impact on campus and in the community. WIP-EMU is turning 5 in 2015. Grants Commi)ee set to do their work so we can get ready to vote! The WIP-EMU grants commi<ee members are busy reading the 31 grant applicaons just received for this year. Each member of the commi<ee reads and evaluates the grants and the commi<ee as a whole meets to discuss each grant and provide a short recommendaon for members to make vong less me consuming and easy. Look for your ballot to come by email in the next few weeks. Please take the me to vote. This is the most important task of our organizaon; deciding as a group which proposals are worthy of our funding for the coming year. Many thanks to the grants commi<ee led by Nina Cons and Linda Pritchard. The program commi<ee, chaired by Glenna Frank-Miller and Kelly Quilter, is planning a wonderful celebraon of our organizaon and the great work that has been done as a result of our grants. This is your Save the Date for Thursday May 14th and the special celebraon with Keynote speaker Sondra Shaw-Hardy. Longme WIP members will remember Sondra from the “Women… An Emerging Force in Philanthropy” presentaon sponsored by the EMU Foundaon June 9, 2008. She started a group of EMU women thinking about the possibilies of a giving group on EMU’s campus and the result was WIP-EMU. Sondra will return to EMU’s campus on May 14th to share more on philanthropy and hear about our success. The WIP-EMU Operang Fund , which supports the smooth operaon of our organizaon ,always needs donaons. There will be an aucon at our Fall meeng Dec. 2nd.
