Strengthening, Educating and Giving to the EMU community
SUMMER 2014
VOLUME 4 ISSUE 3
McKenny Union was alive with
activity on Saturday April 12th
A Family resource and Fun Fair was put on with some of
the funds received from WIP for the EMU Child Care Needs
Study. The Executive Summary Report was available and
included data on the 1,094 EMU student parents who responded to a campus wide survey. There are great needs
for affordable, flexible and accessible child care for student
parents, 76.6% of whom are women. Parents could network with other student parents while their children participated in a variety of activities. Other findings from the
child care survey indicated more than 60% of single parents at EMU have incomes below
$1,199 per month

At the Spring meeting held on May 22nd members received reports from two of our
2013-2014 grantees. Hearing how our funds are spent on and around campus is the
most rewarding part of giving to WIP-EMU.

Special announcement from the Awards committee: Volunteers are needed for this
fall. The work involves one long meeting late October and one short meeting early
November with proposal reading in the middle. This is the most important work
of our organization so think about giving back by volunteering a few hours. If you
can help out contact Linda Pritchard: lpritchar1@emich.edu or Nina Contis: econtis@emich.edu
The harsh winter snows of 2014 didn’t dampen our spirits as WIPEMU cheered on the EMU Women’s Basketball team on January
26th. Pictured: Sally Rosales, Jackie Tracy, Karen Paciorek & Glenna Frank Miller cheering on the Eagles.
