 Fall 2013
Windows XP Support Ends
Microsoft is ending Windows XP support and security patches on April 8, 2014. Computers running Windows XP
after that date will become increasingly vulnerable to security risks. All university-owned computers running
Windows XP need to be upgraded to the Windows 7 operating system.
In anticipation of this change, the I.T. Help Desk has been migrating Windows XP computers for the past several
years. All Windows XP systems need to be migrated before March 1, 2014. After that date, the Help Desk will no
longer provide support for computers running Windows XP. If a computer is too old to support Windows 7, it will
be replaced with a newer computer and the old computer will be sent for disposal.
If you currently have a Windows XP desktop or are not sure what version of Windows you are using, please
contact your campus technician or the I.T. Help Desk to schedule a free upgrade. The Help Desk can be reached
at it.helpdesk@emich.edu, or 734.487.2120.
If you have any questions or special support circumstances surrounding this change, please contact Andrea
Tanner at atanner1@emich.edu, or 734.487.1857
