Prepare a brief proposal document to submit along with the above form that includes the following information:
Faculty Experience- Please provide information on your familiarity with locations on the proposed itinerary, the local language(s) and your experience in leading groups overseas.
Statement of support – Please provide a documented statement of support from your academic department head/school director and/or dean.
Program Description and Rationale – Include a brief description of the program and a proposed itinerary. What is the purpose of the program? What are the benefits to students?
Proposed Study Abroad Program Course Components – Please provide course title and description for each course being offered. Note: Academic departments approve the EMU credit offered on study abroad programs. This information helps us communicate the opportunity to interested students.
Leadership/Staffing – Please detail the faculty staffing. Also include information on any manager, and whether or not you have someone in mind.
Students – Specify the ideal number of students for this trip and/or any eligibility requirements.
(Typically, the minimum number of students for approval for a program run by 1 professor without assistants is 10 students. A program with 1 faculty and an additional assistant or faculty member will need to budget on a minimum of 15 students.)
Logistics – Provide information on transportation needed throughout the trip, accommodations, site visits, museum entrance fees, concerts or cultural events, meals, RT student airfare, etc. (This will form the basis for your budget.) Even if you do not have costs, put down everything you think the program needs to include.
Budget – If you are able, include an estimated budget for the program, but don’t worry too much about it initially. We will go over the budget with you carefully to come up with a bottom line Program Fee for the student.
