Kajal K Mallick PhD RESEARCH INTERESTS My research areas and expertise lie in the field of science, technology, processing and application of engineering materials with suitable approaches to economic benefit. • • • • • • • Tissue Engineering of Hard and Soft Tissues Bioinspired Development of Structures and Materials Material Processing Technology and Characterisation Techniques: Novel synthesis methodologies to fabricate a range of single/multicomponent nanocrystalline ceramic and/or composites with high commercial impact. The application areas are wide ranging such as optical/RF/microwave communications, biomedical, electronics, catalysts or supports as well as nanotechnology. The synthesis methods include: • Sol gel (aqueous and non-aqueous) • Self propagating high temperature synthesis (SHS) • Supercritical scCO2 fluid processing • Microwave processing • Freeze and gel casting Knowledge based Materials Development • Cellular/foamed materials • Superconductors • Functional, Technical and Electroceramics • Biomedical materials • Photonic materials • NTE materials • Computational materials science Glass Strengthening: Concerned with the development and application of several methods of strengthening container glasses in order to improve the pristine strength and profitability of commercially available container and related glass compositions. These include • Surface precipitation of low solubility particles, vapour treatment, ion exchange, CVD and combination treatments.
