ARTICULATION AGREEMENT BETWEEN
[Name of Community College]
[CCProgram]
and
Eastern Michigan University
Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education
Article I
Agreement on Principle
[Name of Community College] ([XXX]) and Eastern Michigan University (EMU) have developed this
articulation agreement for students who choose to earn an Associate in Arts in Elementary Education from
[XXX] and transfer to EMU to earn a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education. The purpose of the
agreement is to provide a smooth curriculum transition for students, allowing them to transfer from [XXX]
to EMU without loss of credits or duplication of coursework. Eastern Michigan University and [Name of
Community College] enter into this agreement as cooperating, equal partners who shall maintain the
integrity of their separate programs.
Article II
Agreement on Program Specifics
[Name of Community College] and Eastern Michigan University agree that any student who has earned an
Associate in Arts in [CCProgram] may transfer the credits indicated on the attached Curriculum Guide
toward a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education at Eastern Michigan University. The bachelor’s
degree graduation requirements for students who follow this transfer program agreement are as follows:
1. Complete the Associate in Arts in [CCProgram] from [Name of Community College] and the
coordinated Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education as indicated in the attached Curriculum
Guide.
2. Students whose transcripts are endorsed as “MACRAO Satisfied” by the community college will only be
required to meet EMU’s additional four general education requirements. 1) a course in advanced written
composition, advanced speech, or a foreign language, 2) a course in mathematical reasoning (unless waived
by ACT scores), 3) a cross-cultural course, and 4) a course in computer literacy. Students who follow the
attached Curriculum Guide will complete MACRAO and EMU’s additional four requirements at the
community college. To avoid losing the benefits of the MACRAO agreement, substitutions for required
courses should only be made with the guidance of a program advisor or a counselor.
3. When applying to EMU, an official transcript, stamped “MACRAO Satisfied”, must be sent to EMU’s
Office of Records and Registration. Students must request this in the [XXX] Student Records Office.
4. Only courses with a grade of “C” or better (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) will be accepted for transfer to EMU. This
also applies to courses used to satisfy MACRAO. A Course completed with a grade less than 2.0, which is
counted toward graduation at the community college, may be used to satisfy basic MACRAO requirements.
However, the course will not transfer and will have to be repeated if it is a requirement of the Secondary
Education Program.

5. Admission to the Teacher Education program is not automatic. Transfer students should start to apply for
admission to the Teacher Education program during their first semester at EMU. To apply, students must
have completed at least 56 credits and at least 12 credits at EMU with an overall EMU grade point average
(GPA) of 2.5 and a GPA of 2.5 in the major or three minors. Other admission criteria include: successful
completion of the state-mandated basic skills test, satisfactory health status, satisfactory social and
emotional adjustment, submission of an autobiography, and freedom from any kind of probation.
6. Students must meet Eastern Michigan University’s admission requirements at the time of admission to
EMU, including submitting transcripts from all previously attended colleges.
7. Students interested in transferring to EMU should sign-up for one of EMU’s Elementary Education Group
Advising sessions early in the program, before completing an admission application to EMU. To facilitate
the evaluation of your transcript, bring a copy of the articulation agreement to your elementary education
group advising session and all individual advising sessions at EMU. An advising copy of this agreement will
be available on EMU’s webpage.
Article III
Agreement on Communication
[Name of Community College] and Eastern Michigan University agree to cooperate in communicating with
each other and with common and respective publics concerning the established relationship between the
two institutions. Communication may include the development of various kinds of publications to inform
those who might benefit personally or professionally from the opportunities provided by this agreement.
Faculty and staff at both institutions will share the information in this agreement with interested and
qualified students and both institutions will provide counseling and advising to students and prospective
students.
Article IV
Maintenance and Review Body and Procedures
At least one administrative or faculty member from each institution will be appointed to act as agents for
the implementation of this agreement, to speak for the institutions and to communicate changes to
respective faculty members, advisors, counselors, and others to whom the information is pertinent.
Responsibility for oversight of this agreement rests with the [Responsible Person] at [Name of Community
College] and the Head of the Teacher Education Department at Eastern Michigan University.
[Name of Community College] and Eastern Michigan University agree to communicate annually any
curriculum changes in their respective programs that may affect this articulation agreement. During the
third year, both parties will review the agreement for revision and renewal. If this agreement is not renewed at
the end of the effective period, students who have selected and designated this articulated program prior to
termination of the agreement will be given three additional years, beyond the initial three, to be admitted to
EMU under the terms of this agreement.
This agreement is effective as of [Effective date until ending date].
