Position Description
Pen Pals Coordinator, Volunteer Position- Fall 2016-Winter 2017
Start Date: September 7 (with expectation of attendance at DCI Student Staff Training, Date
TBD)

communities through holistic service opportunities, mutually beneficial community partnerships,
and immersion programs that coincide with and enhance students' academic and personal goals.

Pen Pals Coordinator, Volunteer Position- Expectations/Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator of the VISION Volunteer Center the Pen Pals
Coordinator, Volunteer Position expectations and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
● Hold 3-5 office hours per week
● Build and maintain relationships with local elementary school teachers who participate in
Pen Pals program
● Set schedule for letter pick ups, drop offs, and due dates for the year
● Schedule and facilitate Pen Pals trainings during Fall semester
● Select and train classroom leaders
● With the classroom leaders, pro-read all letters before delivery
● Support and assist program participants in recording service hours
● Plan end of year Meet and Greet with classroom teachers
● Represent VISION and the Pen Pals program specifically in various settings
(Eaglepalooza, etc.)
● Attend at least two meetings per semester with the VISION Volunteer Center

Pen Pals Coordinator, Volunteer Position - Qualifications
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Community service, community engagement, and volunteer experience (specifically Pen
Pals experience) strongly preferred
Flexible and able to work with the schedules of multiple people
Passion for social justice
Enrolled in at least 6 credit hours each term
Cumulative EMU GPA of 2.5 or greater (must be maintained throughout the duration of
employment)
Hours and Compensation
Approximately 5 hours per week. This is a volunteer position.
