There are great events in store for graduate students
during winter semester. Many students will be
preparing to present this spring at local and national
conferences. As you are thinking about presenting
your research, please submit an application to present
at EMU’s very own showcase of exemplary student
work at the 15th Annual Graduate Research Fair. See
page 2 for details.
The University Fellowship is a distinction of honor awarded to
select graduate students on the basis of academic merit.
Fellowship awards may range from $500 to $4,000 per year.
Requirements:
• New graduate students = 3.6 cumulative undergraduate
GPA.
• Current students = 3.8 GPA in your program of study.
• Awards for part-time enrollment may be based on merit and
a 3.0 GPA.
*Priority is given to students not receiving other kinds of aid such as a G.A.
Awards are competitive and distributed among all graduate academic
programs.

Information and Application Processes can be found at

Before applying, be sure to have a faculty mentor with whom you will work to finalize your presentation. The
form will ask for his/her name and email address. We will email him/her to seek approval of your presentation.
Without the approval, you will NOT be scheduled to present. Have a conversation before submission so that our
email request for support will not be surprising. You will need a title for your presentation – don’t make it too
long. Prepare the presentation abstract, which needs to be at most 150 words – PLEASE BE BRIEF!
Groups may present their work as a team. One member will be the point person and will provide a contact phone
number for the group. That person will complete the online application and enter information about each
presenter. Be sure to have the correct spelling of all names – these will go into the program, be on the website,
and be printed on nametags and certificates of participation. We will also need emails for each presenter.
Have all of this information handy before you start the online application form.

25th Annual National Black Graduate Student Conference
http://www.nbgsa.org/nbgsc2013/
NBGSA, the nation's largest interdisciplinary graduate student organization, will celebrate its 25th annual
conference from March 6-10, 2013, in Dearborn, MI. This event will host participants from around the
country. Conference attendees will participate in poster and oral presentations, paper competitions, and
workshops designed to aid with their overall graduate experience. Additionally, an impressive number of
keynote speakers composed essentially of highly regarded scholars and academicians will deliver speeches
and share their success stories.
The 2012-2013 NBGSA Conference Committee is seeking proposals for papers, posters, panels, and
workshops that focus on our conference theme: “Honoring The Past, Defining The Future.” We invite you to
join us as we commit to the future, reflect on the past, encourage our communities, and boldly blaze new
trails! While proposals related to this theme are especially welcome, proposals addressing any topic of
interest to the diverse membership of the National Black Graduate Student Association will be considered.
