Article Chosen as Cover Article - Illustrated. 1 During 1998, 1999, and 2000 my research output suffered greatly. Here=s why. I was diagnosed with chronic myelogous leukemia during late March 1997 and was treated at M.D. Anderson as an outpatient for fourteen months in an experimental therapy that eventually failed. That forced me to undergo an unrelated bone marrow transplantation in late October 1998, and that took (as is typical) about 12-14 to fully recover. All of a sudden, it is early 2000, and about three years of my professional career had been omitted. On the other hand, I did live (Joke!) 11 Strutton, David and Lou E.
