New Recommendations
(23 faculty attended and voted - 17 tenure track, 6 research faculty)
1 . PSE - retain most of the current structure but broaden to include more interdisciplinary natural resources education - accepted unanimously.
2. FEE - considering merging with environmental Engineering in COE. If numbers remain low, provide graduate program only, with undergraduate education provided by other engineering-base programs. Tabled unanimously.
3. Merge FM, WS, CWR, EHUF and SRS into a single, more flexible interdisciplinary natural resources curriculum , with opportunities to specialize in selected tracks at the upper division.
Amended to: Create an interdivisional faculty committee to develop several options in which two or more of CWR, EHUF, FEE, FM, SRS and WS are merged/ integrated.
Options, with associated cost benefits will be presented to the whole faculty for discussion and selection of one option and then voted on by divisional faculty.
Science, management and design were suggested as integrating themes and might serve as the basis for a three curriculum option. Accepted unanimously.
4. Structure the 3-2 M.S. Degree option (restricted to top 5-10% of students) to appropriate curricula.
Accepted unanimously.
Not voted on:
1. Consider a resolution for restructuring UW natural resources education into a new college.
2. Embrace essence of Boyer Report (inquiry-based learning).
3. Embrace technological innovations.
4. Recognize the value of service courses, develop and offer them.
5. Develop more effective recruiting mechanisms.
