What is Living Green?
In late 2008 the City of Bellevue
started seeing a desire from Bellevue residents to learn more about
ways that they could “Green Up”
their consumer choices and homes.
This program series is the answer.
The Living Green Series will cover
various topics throughout the year
from shopping choices to gardening
and home remodels.
Living Green Series
Eat What You Grow!
Join Willi Galloway, the creator of DigginFood.com and the West Coast Editor of Organic Gardening magazine, as she divulges her secrets to gardening and cooking success. Learn how to harvest your fruits and vegetables
and go from garden to dinner plate in thirty minutes or less! She will share
with you some inside tips, so bring questions and writing utensils.
When: August 12, 7-9 pm

Forest Management and the Green Consumer
Do consumer actions coincide with green rhetoric, or are we just hiding under a “green umbrella?” Join Gregory Ettl, Director of the Center for Sustainable Forestry at Pack Forest, as he investigates forest management
practices as they relate to the various environmental worldviews on sustainability. Learn the facts about ecologically-oriented forest management
and how it relates to your desire to become a more conscious green consumer.
When: September 9, 7-9 pm

Natural Yard Care
The City of Bellevue Utilities Department will be on hand to teach you how
to care for your lawn or garden this Fall. Learn natural yard care techniques
and how to combat those pesky, noxious weeds through identification and
eradication methods. Also, gain knowledge on how to build up your soils,
create a compost bin out of food scraps and conserve water with a water
wise garden display!
When: September 16, 7-9pm

Identification and Classification of Plants
Native to Washington
Want to learn about the natural world around you? Join Ryan Miller, Ph.D.
candidate at the University of Washington, as he briefs you on what you
need to know about native plant species. Learn the principles and philosophies behind plant classification, as well as useful field characteristics and
how to identify key plant species native to the Pacific Northwest!
