ELEMENTARY EDUCATION ARTICULATION AGREEMENT GUIDE
Henry Ford College– AA in Pre-Elementary Education
Eastern Michigan University – BS in Liberal Arts Major for Elementary Education
Additional Information:
1. In completing the coordinated program of study for this articulation agreement, course substitutions should be
made with the guidance of the advisors (indicated below) at both institutions to assure that all requirements are
satisfied. Each institution will determine the satisfaction of their individual program and degree requirements.
HFC courses indicated with an * are required for EMU’s Elementary Education Program.
2. Students whose transcripts have the “MTA Satisfied” endorsement will only be required to complete one
“Perspectives on a Diverse World” course, one “Learning Beyond the Classroom” (LBC) experience, and a
Writing Intensive course in the major. The Perspectives on a Diverse World requirement may be transferred to
EMU.
To use the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA), students must have an official community college transcript, with
the “MTA Satisfied” endorsement, sent to EMU’s Admissions Office. Students who do not have “MTA Satisfied”
on their community college transcript, will be required to satisfy EMU’s general education requirements as listed
in the Undergraduate Catalog. The MTA may be completed after admission to EMU, however, students should
inform their advisor in order to receive appropriate advising.
3. Only courses with a grade of “2.0” or better on a “4.0” scale will be accepted for transfer to EMU.
4. A minimum of 60 semester hours must be completed at the four-year college level, of which 30 hours must be
completed at EMU, with at least 9 hours in the major and 6 hours in the minor at the 300- level or above. Of the
last 30 semester hours prior to graduation, at least 10 hours must be completed in courses offered by EMU. A
minimum of 124 credit hours, completed in-residence or accepted in transfer, is required for graduation.
5. Criteria for admission to the program:
• Completion of 56 credits, with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher from all previous
institutions, or an EMU (GPA) of 2.5, based on at least 12 EMU credits, and a GPA of 2.5 in the major.
• If Secondary: A grade of “C” or higher in the following EMU or equivalent courses: ENGL 121, CTAC 124, a
QR course, one lab science, all professional education courses, and if special education, PSY 101.
• If Elementary: A grade of “C” or higher in the following EMU or equivalent courses: ENGL 121, CTAC 124,
MATH 108 and 110, PHY 100, ESSC 202, all professional education courses, all courses “for elementary
teachers”, and if special education, PSY 101.

• satisfactory health status; satisfactory social and emotional adjustment; submission of an autobiography; and
freedom from any kind of probation.
6. Students are encouraged to attend an EMU Elementary Education group advising session and an individual
advising session with the EMU Teacher Education Department faculty before applying for admission to EMU. To
facilitate the evaluation of transcripts, students should bring a copy of this articulation guide to all advising
sessions at EMU.
This agreement is effective as of January 1, 2014 until December 31, 2016.
This is a renewal of an agreement made in June 2004 and renewed in September 2007. Students who took GEOL 131
instead of SCI 212 must ask for a prerequisite waiver when enrolling in BIOT 303. If this agreement is not renewed at
the end of the effective period, students who already started the program will be given three additional years to be
admitted to EMU under the terms of this agreement.
