Presidential Search Update – Sandler – supports staying on the committee, Jones-Darling – Supports staying on, 23,000 students on this campus and only 1 gets on the presidential search process. Extremely upset with reagents decision to only have 1 Starr – Also supports, a seat within is better than yelling at the windows. The only thing to gain is to let everyone know we are upset but we can do that within Gee – first plan of action is to make a resolution, whether or not we get representation or not. Even if we ARE in the room, we still don’t have a voice. It is better to pull out and not have a voice so we can make a bigger stand. Morton – Not sure if we should remain, if something goes down and we are not happy with our president, it all lies down on 1 student, Anjali. Screaming at a brick wall is not worth it. Pernicano – Is Anjali being heard? Anjali – Yes, several job description changes have been made by me. Reagent Crum was surprised with how much Anjali is contributing. I am heard. I think that a voice is important, but if a voice is louder outside the walls then I will do that too. Reagents have to respect Anjali since she is the last one there. Starr – Disagrees with Morton. Students would say “Where were you?” when we needed you. Don’t focus on who to blame. Should focus on the process. Anjali – Pressures to move forward with the meeting since we have a lot to cover. Show of hands if we should stay or not: 17 stays, 8 say leave. 5. Athletic Commission Steven: Thinks it is a good idea to form a commission to keep track of the Athletic department and their spending habits. Addresses the way the athletics gets funded from administration. 84% of athletic department revenue is from tax dollars and tuition and fees. 10% of what you pay goes to athletics. Is there a better way to pay this? (General support of this commission being formed) Perry – It isn’t just funding the football team, but all of our successful sports. Steven: Not to be anti-athletics, but to be aware of how they are being funded and if we can put those funds towards greater things. McKinney – asks for clarity about the 84% number, Steven answers Starr: Fully supports executive order, would like to note that it’s a touchy subject. We are not here to make enemies, but to just collect information Steven: The way in which we frame this is very important. Anjali: Perry will be there to make sure we stay on track 6. EAA Decision Steven: Board of Regents will bring this up in December. Hoping they will bring a vote to get out of the contract with EAA. Working towards a resolution to strongly urge Board of Regents to back out. We still do not think this is a good idea at all. It is again time to get out. 7. Upcoming Senate Schedule and Events 1.
